I have an 02 convertible. Is it safe to mount amps on the trunk deck behind the seats? I'd like them to be just in front of the top when it's down. I know that's the area above the gas tank but not sure if there's room between the flat part of trunk and gas tank. Any info would be great. Thanks!!
How do I mount an amplifier?
One think you have to worry about when mounting equipment is hitting vital parts like the gas tank. To get around this the easiest way to mount an amplifier or like equipment is to mount a piece of mdf wood to the body of the car (under the oem carpet) with some silicone sealant/caulking. This is a semi-perminant solution that will allow you to remove the piece further down the road if you choose too, while granting you the piece of mind that you will not be drilling into your car. After the silicone has dried you can reinstall the oem carpet and then drill into the newly secured mounting plate.
I've got mine currently sitting where your's are Evil. I'll add the surround enclosure like you had initially in the next week or so. I'm still having a problem with the sub amp getting a bit warm. I had a 2 ch 600 watt amp that got so hot you couldn't touch it and often shut down to cool. I now have a 4 ch 1200 watt bridged. While it's cooler, it's not cool enough for my tastes. Before I make the enclosure, I think I'll add a fan to that amp. For now, I just put velcro on the bottom and they're fine on the carpet, no movement and such. Thanks for the inputs.
When it comes to the C5 convertible the ONLY solution for good sound and still retaining decent cargo space is this set up...As we all know when the top is down cargo space is even more limited......I can still stow items in the center cargo area, as well as stack a suitcase or two on top of it with the lid in place ...
I have the amps now placed behind the seats but in roof stowage area (think between seats and roof when top is down). I'm having boxes made similar to what you have except they'll be custom fit to go from the corner of the center storage well to the end of the wheel well. This will accomodate two 8" subs (could prob do to shallow mount 10's but this is enough for me). They'll be held in place with velcro to allow for easy removal...just pull out of the corner, disconnect speaker wire and remove. It will allow me to use the center storage well, too. I'll sacrafice the two smaller storage areas but I'm cool with that. Then I'll have all but about 1.5-2 sf of the trunk available when top is down. I'll post pics next week when it's done.

I was referring to was not filling the center cargo well with sub(s)...which would eliminate the majority of cargo space...
Great thread! Been planning on doing this in my vert as well. Thought that the amps below the top when it's down is good but have worried about overheating. With fans has anyone run into problems with that?
