Just took my 2003 Coupe in for the Annual VA State Inspection and the Service Manager told me I needed to consider changing my Automatic Transmission Fluid. Since the car is 7 years old with 55K miles I told him I'd think about it. The dealer wants $249 to change the fluid only. Dropping the pan and replacing the filter will cost another $189. Is this reasonable or is the dealer trying to pull something?
Not trying to pull something, it sounds like they are trying to push something............in your azz. My guy at Jiffy lube said he'd do it for $175 filter/fluid. He also said he'd do the rear diff. fluid for free while he had it.
Be careful who you let work on your transmission. There is a very specific procedure to draining the 5 qts and refilling that if not followed can result in a lot of $$$$$. See these posts:
Some places do only drain the fluid, drop the pan, replace the filter, and fill... some also offer to flush the system on the machine to get all of the old fluid out. Most dealerships will have a price to have both things combined done that is maybe $50 or so lower than if you did them separately.
