2003 Z06...Vert???

EDIT: Now you could be correct that GM only has 2 molds, but if that were the case it'd be for a vert and a coupe, then to fit the FRC they cut that 5/8" piece off as you describe. If that's the case they do it all at the mfg facility.

Never the less, its still pretty much the same body, that's what i was trying to get at.

"The conversion was done by a company in Farmington, Utah called Corvette Recycling. Doug, the owner, bought the car as his personal driver and did the conversion."
isnt corvette recycling a vendor here? i wonder if this is true?

There are only 2 panels avail from GM. The Vert and Coupe.
When you order a panel for either a Vert or Z06, it is the same part number, same panel, same EVERYTHING. GM does not modify this, nor do they trim anything for you.
When the bodyshop receives the panel, they have to trim the upper piece if it is being installed onto a Z06.
This has been extensively researched by us, as we had a huge screw up thinking that GM was halfway intelligent in this department. We saw the one part number, and were told they were the EXACT same panel. So we got a Z06 and made the molds. We didnt know until after the fact.
The 6th digit is body style - 1=FRC, 2=coupe, 3=convertible.
The 8th digit is engine - S=LS6, G=LS1.
So again - is this a convertible that has an LS6, rear brake ducts and some emblems on the fenders or is it a true Z06 that has been converted to a convertible?
Also - the Z06 has a different IP cluster that has the numbers in italics, the Z06 logo appears on the speedo, and there is a checkboard background on the gauges - that the coupes and convertibles did not have.
Also - seats were not sport seats, and the passenger side is manual, power was not available. Finally - on the RPO tag located in the glove box, look for the FE4 designation, which indicates the suspension on a Z06.
Bottom line, the Z06 is a substantially different car than the coupes and convertibles.
blacksedan is correct with all the above.when i found mine i verified most of the above info and also checked the ti exhaust and the 243 designator stamped on the heads. i felt comfortable enough at that point to swing the deal.
shortly thereafter i confirmed the Z0 specific RPO codes and the VIN info with a forum member.
i know there are more examples out there and that (forum member) illmac77 converted his Z0 last year and he did a heck of a job.
i've read quite a bit about the caravaggio conversion and while i can appreciate the work and quality of those vehicles lucky enough to have that "caravaggio" touch (the car def looks custom), i actually prefer the conversion being done with factory pieces because it looks just that....factory.
as for any more or less value, one could argue the rarity of the modification but there are those that would say (and have said) that i no longer actually have a z06. i can see both sides.
what i do know is that whatever i or anybody else wants to call it, it is a fun vehicle to drive...top up or down.
now if i can just talk the wife into letting me buy an untouched FRC Z0.........

peace,
rich
