I can not believe after all these years, this is still happening.
There WAS a fix from GM that was done free at your dealer. ALTHOUGH, if your C5 is a manual tranmission car, the GM fix is not a guarantee but the Column Lock Bypass IS
I should have used the SEARCH for this question. I haven't been on this forum in almost 4 years. I will try the fix to get it unlocked, sure hate to have it towed to dealer. Thanks again.
If it is a manual trans post back here. There is an additional thing to check for before installing a CLB on manuals.....
It is a manual. I was thinking I had something done at the dealer about this a few years back, but I cannot find any paper work to confirm.. Don't matter any way because right now my car is LOCKED.
Hey guys im a new member here but i signed up just to help this guy out cus i had the same problem on my 04 c5 manual trans.i got a column bypass from coh.com (corvettes of houston) online for about 65 buck never had the problem again.took me about 15 min to install it .so easy.this was about 1 yr ago works perfect. Try looking it up
For now try turning the wheel hard to the right while turning the key on. It should pop loose. After that make sure the wheels are straight before you shut the car off.
Every time someone puts a Vette in their name, a flyer should automatically be mailed out to them explaining how they bought the coolest car on the planet with the most retarded draw back ever.
Started up the RED RIDE to pull out of the garage and the cloumn is locked up. I heard that GM just announced a recall for this.. Can anyone confirm that??
How could a Senior Member post this? Especially the part about GM just announcing a RECALL for it??

quoted directly from my mind. I am not trying to be a d!ck but he's been here since 01 and is just now...oh forget it.
huffyred00 - good luck with the fix. try the "turn your wheel violently back and forth to unlock", then don't move you're vette until you get the CLB installed.

See why I haven't been on here for the last 4 years! I had the recall done in 04, now I am trying to find out why it failed. There are a lot of guys here that don't mind helping a fellow out, then there are the ones that just like to post remarks about everyone else. Yeah I have a problem, yes I need advice, but , I really don't need you guys smart remarks. Have a nice day. Oh yeah, don't forget to post a few remarks about how fast your car is since the last wax job.

Don't let it get to you! Heck, he couldn't even spell Dick right!
Don't take it to the dealer. Mine locked up in my driveway, luckily, so I ripped the steering wheel out, took the ECL out, grounded off the nub that locks the steering wheel, and put it back together. I did have to install the column bypass to trick the computer. I am by no means an expert GM mechanic. It took me a solid day and a couple phone calls but it worked. There are other options, good luck friend.
i really would not turn my steering wheel too violent ...but i would go on coh.com and buy the relay bypass works awesome ..i bought 1. 110% happy never had a problem again and took me 15 min to install.just trying to help cus i know i went through hell trying to figure something out 4 mine when i got stuck..was not a member yet

Awwwww did I hurt somebody's feelings? You're going to need thicker skin than that to use the internet. Your question was odd (to say the least) for a member who has been here since 2001. so much so you even edited the "recall" part out of your original post.
Besides, you got lots of good info from several members (you can even recall, I gave you a suggestion) yet you chose to waste your response on the one little joke I made. If what I said was so bad, why didn't you just choose to read past it and thank everyone for thier good advice? If I'm such an a$$hole (look another typo for Silverbullet00 to point out), don't worry about me!!! Life is too short.
So, I will send you an "e" hug and say sorry. Go fix your column lock and be thankful you can drive your vette at this time of year rob
