Hey there fantatic plastic lovers!! Im just sitting here, suffering from the winter boredums, reading mags like Motor Trend, Car and Driver, etc. Motor Trend is running a story featuring the most significant vehicles of the last 40 years, and there no mention of the C5 ZO6. Its kinda funny seeing that it was a pretty groundbraking revolutionary NOT EVOLUTIONARY new Corvette since the 1963 ZO6. Im flipping through the pages and I was kinda irked because it seems such a deliberate snub.Maybe the snow and the walls are closing in on me. It would seem to me that a car that can turn 4.0 sec to 60 times at a bargain price when new, compared to 911s and M5sis super in more ways than just performance. Im curious about what you think about that, especially considering that the 2001 is approaching 10 years old and still outruns lots of foreign competition and runs with the new Vettes such as the current Grand Sport.
The title and the article aren't even related... automobile industry significance and supercars are in a different category all together.
I wouldn't consider the Z06 as being SIGNIFICANT in the car community as a whole.. obviously if the article was related to GM only, then I believe it would be on there.
To Motor Trend, automobile significance encompasses much more than power and price... but that's just my opinion.
The C5 Z06 is the most bad-*** Supercar in the world, It is a Supercar in every aspect, Its Performance is Lightning; Its Handling is top notch, its braking is superior to any other and its sheer power is staggering!. The thundering roar of its V-8 leaves all other cars shaking and hidding in thier garage. American Thunder Baby!. I Salute the Corvette Z06, An American Legend!
lets keep our mullets in check here, gentlemen... the z06 braking is good, but certainly not superior (the C6ZR1, I would agree to that)... the c5 z06 is also certainly not the most bad *** super car on earth. I don't like how the guts of what the OP is saying is that he has a problem with the c5 z06 not being considered one of the most significant cars in the past 40 years... not questioning it is a super car or not. If he is then the post should have been worded differently.
I'm not on here to bash these cars, because i LOVE mine but I feel like I have a more realistic standpoint than some here on the CF.

The ZR1 is a supercar, the Mclaren F1 is a supercar, the C5 Z06 is not a supercar.
Yes it's a badass sports car, but I mean come on are you really going to compare it with the likes of an enzo?
it has supercar-like performance and a supercar-like "impractical" 2 passenger-only configuration with swooping styling; but it does not have the ultra high-end/exotic quality.
From 2001 thru 2004, the C5Z was right there performance wise with the supercars (911, lambos, etc). Just like the C6Z is considered a supercar today, the C5Z was a supercar back then. The ZR1 is a world class car and is more of a collector piece than a supercar.

At the time GM released the Z06, it did a phenomenal job of making the "supercars" feel a bit less super. The fact that the car was at least 1/2 the price of cars with similar/competitive performance was even worse. (This was even more pronounced with the C6Z).
A supercar? Sure, I'll say "yes"...as there are few vehicles that can do as many things as well as a C5Z. Sure the car doesn't have Nappa leather...or Brembo brakes...or dual-overhead cams, some things were scaled back for cost. But it does have double a-arms, a balance favoring trans-axle, and a very light Titanium exhaust. Add a wicked V8 that responds to mods like Popeye does Spinach and you've a pretty potent...well...supercar.
Any car that can be driven from the showroom floor to the race track and be raced without modifications is a suprcar. GM specifically built the Z06 for that kind of use right down to its "Supercar" Goodyears.

Unfortunately the C5Z isn't a supercar for one major reason. One of the requirements is that the car must cost at least $100K. This has been mentioned many times. GM themselves admitted to this while they were working on the "Blue Devil".
All things considering, the C5Z is like the sugar supplements. It looks like sugar, tastes like sugar, and produces the same effect. But it is only the good part of sugar, with the bad parts removed; a C5Z looks and drives like a supercar without the nasty price tag that goes alone with owning a supercar.
