Default First Vette

We are looking to purchase our first Vette. I have found a few 1998 C5's with very low miles and have also found a 2004 with low miles. Other than the years is there a advantage with one over the other?

You need to view the thread on this forum that shows the changes from year to year. You'll be amazed at the amount of improvements made to the C5 during those years!

Might just as well go for the 04. There were a few refinements and a few changes that are for the better. For example,,the EBCM computer(active handling/ABS/and traction Control computer)was updated in 01 easier to get repaired if there is a problem,,and the tire pressure wheel unites are less expensive to replace as the average life span is = or - 10 years for the batteries in them. Little things like that that,,small details,,but if it's affordable,,get the newest lowest mile car that you get a good deal/can afford!! Enjoy the hunt!!!

As mentioned the 04 will have all of the improvements done to the C5 generation. The major changes took place in 01. Also you will have a 6 year newer car, which will help on resale.

I'd certainly buy the newer one over the older one.

Depending on your budget and the prices of the two cars, I'd suggest going with the newest one you can afford. There were a number of improvements over the years as well as additional options that could be had on the cars.

I have a few Word files that might just help you out, including a Corvette Buyers Checklist. If you'd like a copy, PM me your e-mail address.

I purchase cars for how they look ... all other factors are secondary.

The non Z06 Fixed Roof Coupe made in '99 and 2000 is clearly the best looking C5 model.

Congratulations on which ever year you get

Check out this site for lots of information and comparisons of each C5 year:

I think it's always best to get the newest year you can afford.

Buy the car you like the best as long as it is mechanically sound. Make sure you get the transmission, color, and options you are really looking for or you may find that you are regretting your purchase after the newness wares off. Take your time and find what you really want, they are out there and deals can be found. Good luck.

Are you looking to spend 10-15, or 18-23?
For a relatively small amount of money (18-23) you can get one heck of a car.
Good luck.
