Hi guys, I'm normally in the C4 section, but this 98 really caught my eye. I love the color scheme and to me it looks absolutely immaculate. Can you guys give me your opinion of what is should be worth in this market, and also what you think of the car in general?
It looks pretty nice. A few things that I noticed:
Don't let those pictures fool you. Under those lights any car will look good! I am sure that car has its share of scratches and paint chips.
Riken tires?! Never heard of them, why would they put such "garbage" on those wheels?
Holy vinyl shine batman! You need sunglasses driving that thing. A lot of the dash shines hurt the dash and can cause premature cracking and fading.
Tail pipes look crooked. After market exhaust was probably removed.
Blue silicone intake piece attached to stock air bridge and cleaner. This car probably had an aftermarket air intake kit, but was removed for resale but they lost the factory bellow.
For $16k it's not bad, it was just a couple of years ago that you couldn't get a C5 under $20k.
If you are interested, we are getting in a 1998 Black convertible with 45k miles on it and will be selling it for high teens/low 20's. PM me if interested.
stay with c4 man, worst mistake i did bought my Z06 after C4, C5 is nice refined more power but its got its own problems, if u drag raced than literally stay away from C5 as they do wheelhop and break rear end, its a expensive fix, i never had a wheelhop on my C4 which has seen several low low 12 sec 1/4's prolly over 100 runs never a rear end problem or wheelhop.
Yeah you can run CCW drag pack to soften up but holy crap its 2 grand.

I saw all the same things. Also note that it was just buffed out and they did a poor job getting the buffing compound out of all the gaps and seams.
I also saw the drivers side door panel is de-laminating at the armrest area - a typical issue.
Also noticed although the seats appear to look good the upper bolster on the drivers seat looks wrinkly.
the passenger front wheel is missing a lugnut or lugnut cap
It looks like they had some kid spray the entire car with tire shine! It will take weeks to get all that crap cleaned off and get things properly clean.
It's a little high in price. I mean if you got it for right where it is right now then maybe. But if it goes over 17000 then it's a little high but about right for a dealer price maybe. It has upgraded wheels (2000+ or replicas) and has at least aftermarket exhaust tips or maybe a full catback. It looks to be in great condition. The color combo of inside and the two tone interior is a nice one. The seats are the sport seats. I'd want to know if it is a Z51 or not. I don't see the HUD option either which would be another bargaining chip.
The C5 though is a fantastic car compared to the C4. Completely different. I've only test drove C4's but I did buy the C5 (1999 Z51 with all options). I'd say if you are interested in it then look into it more if you can. If it works great mechanically then it might not be such a bad deal.

GL.
I'll take that piece of garbage Z off your hands
16k is too high, I paid 13k for my 98 w/ the same miles. keep looking, or offer like 14k... all they can do is decline.
Sharp looking car though.
I have a 1998 vert and I must say the seats look great in that car. The blue air bridge area looks cheesy, the tires look horrible, and the inside of dash and black area's look too black...like spray paint. The exhaust tips are not lined up, I would agree that the after market exhaust has been probably removed. The high mileage is not that bad, there are folks on here that are quite proud of their very high mileage cars.
Keep looking and do your best to find a nice private party deal. I paid $14.5K for this '99 M6 with 73K miles on it over a year ago -- and they've come down since then:
If you are BUYING,,go with Kelly Blue Book,,prices are more conservative,,going to finance quote N.A.D.A.,,prices are more "optimistic"!! Price is high. Two years ago(before the economy and prices tanked) I got a fully equipped 2000 FRC with only 55,500 on it for $18,600,,over 4k below book. with the economic times and the Blue Book price,,they are overpriced!!
