Default Possible Newbie With?

Thinking of trading my 76 for 2001 ZO6 with several $ of course. The dealer told me the Carfax said lemon on it because of the oil issue when it was new.It was sent back to dealer in 2oo1 and he bought it from them. The original owner wanted a new car and not have it repaired when he first bought it. The title is not branded salvage or lemon.Has anyone heard of this happening? Thanx in advance.

while I have never experienced this myself, being a great buyers market.. move on to another. You would be foolish to accept any potential risk right now.

If you don't mind not having a targa or vert, go Z06.
You wont regret it.

I have an '01 Zo6 and it's been a dream!

Personally, I'd stay away from any c5 built late 03 or any 04 due to the serious fuel tanks issues that have recently come to light. Not if, but when, every one will develope fuel leaks from the design change. When you pay $2400 to fix it, you get the same parts that are going to fail again. The only true fix is to replace both tanks/crossover with the earlier design.

Here's a thread that has grown to 10 pages. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...or-smells.html

Hang on to the C3. The dealer is not going to give you anything but an auction price for the car. Besides the C3 is probably paid for and they cost nearly nothing to insure if you put antique or collector insurance on them.

Got any pics of the new one or details of it?

Sorry ,but no pics yet.It is silver with black interior.22,000 miles. All stock. I have heard about a couple of recalls on the 01.Something about lights and the oil usage.Anybody else heard of these?2 that I looked at had a lemon alert on the Carfax report but was told this was because of the oil problem and it was fixed and bought back. The titles were'nt branded.

^ There are some past complaints with oil usage for the '01 year model. Most (if not all) would have been dealt with under warranty by now. There are other variables that caused the issue such as block distortion (all LSx engines use oil to some degree) and piston ring flutter when you keep the rpm's elevated without much load on the engine. Some of the bad press on the '01 Zo6 is just hype since all '01 c5s share the same rings yet you only hear the gripe about '01z cars although no complaints are filed by current owners.

If you PM dieseldave56 or search for his posts you will get more detail.

Lemon law pertains to having your car in the shop for more than 3 occasions spanning more than 30 business days total. I can see how time can be burnt at a dealership monkeying around, with a buyer simply deciding afterall to return the car and get a newer one (or his money back).

A lemon law '01 due to burning oil could have easily had the issue fixed by now. Service records are key to deciding what is in the car's past and what (potentially) may be in it's future.

It's 1am.... G'night!!

Can you tell me more about this?

I have an 02z and did hear about this problem but most people had said it wasn't anything to worry about.

Now that it is brought up again...I'd like to know the risk. Was this a RECALL kind of thing?

thanks
