Well yesterday, With my girlfriend, I was picking up some things at the local Walmart. I parked the c5 in the far back, far away from everyone else as usual. About 2 rows forward I saw another beautiful c6 who had obviously done the same. As I eventually pass the c6 and was walking up about 75 ft past, I noticed a shopping cart gaining serious speed, due the down hill slope of the parking lot and the strong winds that were gusting about 20mph at the time. And guess what it was heading for? The beautiful lonesome c6. Well out of impulse I Darted across the parking lot and stopped the cart about 2 ft short of demolishing the c6's passenger door.
Now this got me wondering. Yes I normally park far away from others due to the scare of someone's door hitting me, but the way I saw that shopping car B-line for that c6 got my wondering if its worth parking next to someone so their car might get hit by stray carts and not mine. Because that cart would have done WAY more damage then someones door could. Opinions?

Reason: Better sounding title.
I think the chances of someones door hitting your car is higher then a rogue cart speeding at your car...people here in Florida tend to not care when they hit your car as I've seen in the past so I always go for that end spot with the median on one side.
I've always been really concerned about door dings, but it seems to me this shouldn't be a problem with fiberglass vette.
A crazy speeding shopping cart could crack it, but a door could at worst only chip the paint - and the clear coats on these cars are exceptionally hard, so it will probably just leave paint from the other person's car that will come off with a little elbow grease.

You should be applauded for caring enough to stop the cart from damaging the C6 while the lazy *** person who left the cart out in the first place should be slapped upside the head.

That being said, sometimes I park up with everyone, other times I'm mid-way. Sometimes I just park far away that way I can admire it from a far and it makes getting back to it that much sweeter.
I'd say you keep parking it further away from anyone. If possible, park around one of those grassy/bushy islands. Even if you park next to someone, a cart can still hit the front or back of your car plus you still have a high likely hood that someone's going to open their door into your car.
A staggering amount of people genuinely do NOT care if they open their doors into your car no matter what car you have or what theirs is. And I do mean staggering. Ever sit in a crowded parking lot and just watch what people do when they open their doors? My friends and I often stand in parking lots talking about cars while we watch an seriously amazing amount of people open their doors into cars and not even acknowledge what they did.
Park far far far far far far far far far far far far far far away from the circus!
I take my car to places like Walmart and the mall all the time. I never seperate myself from other cars for multiple reasons. This being one of them. Another being that you're making it look like you're better than everyone else unintentionally and a lot of people will vandalize your car just because of that.
Best possible parking spot, (the ones I look for), handicap slot to your left or right and you get the first non-handicap position right next to it. I cheat a little into the handicap spot and leave extra room from the normal spot dingbat who parks next to you. Otherwise park next to the shopping cart corral, as most douche rockets don't return the cart to it. It's like playing golf with me. Your safest possible place on the course during my swing, is standing right next to the flag and hole, as my shot never goes near it.
I've never taken my Vette to Walmart, but I do drive my TrailBlazer SS there and park it out as far as I can. You always have to take slope and wind direction into consideration prior to choosing your parking spot.
I worked for Wal-Mart for 13 years and had to travel to several other stores besides than my own. One thing I always looked for was the highest spot in the parking lot that is the furthest away from the store. Just like in war, always take the high ground.
