Default Change in coolant operating temp.

I changed the coolant last fall and noticed that the operating temp is higher now than it was before I changed it. I have run the engine up to where the temp stabilized several times and then let the engine cool to where I could remove the tank cap and did not notice any air escaping from the tank. Before I changed the coolant, the op temp was 190-192. Now it is 196-198. Could I have done something wrong??

Perhaps you have a higher percentage of antifreeze in the mix? Perhaps you have sucked up some debris/leaves into the radiator?

Also, it's possible you introduced some air into the system. Doesn't take much to raise the coolant temp if the system isn't properly "burped".

This is why I let the experts do a job like this. Sounds like you've got air trapped in the system.

Patches, I searched the forum and found a "Burp" procedure. It says "run the engine between idle and 3000 rpm until the temp reaches 210. Remove the coolant cap" I am sure that removing the cap with the temp at 210 will blow coolant all over the place. Am I reading this correctly.
I have cleaned the radiator exterior and the coolant that I put in as a replacement was a 50/50 mix. If the mix was more coolant and less water, would that make the engine run hotter or cooler?
Thanx to all for your responses.

I'd put a thick rag over the cap and open it really, really, really slowly. I've done it before, but I'm a professional. Can't stress enough how slowly. It took me like a full minute or more to vent the pressure. Longer to get the cap off completely.
It could be you've just got some scale inside. Aluminum does corrode it's just called scale instead of rust. Find a shop to power flush the system, with the theremostat removed, if the cap thing doesn't do it for you.

You may want to retry burping the system to ensure that all air is out. Hopefully that is all that may be causing the temp to be a bit higher.

Thanks again Patches. It looks like the plan here is to only turn the cap 1/4 tp 1/2 turn and then stop. DO NOT PRESS DOWN. Allow the residual pressure to be relieved. I will try this the first chance that I get.
