Question? 300 mph speedometer
Hello Everyone,
I purchased my first Vette (1999 Coupe) this past November and am very much enjoying the pride of ownership. I am trying to learn as much as I can about Corvettes. This forum is awesome!!!
My question to you is this.. My car has a 300 mph Speedometer and I have seen pics of several cars outfitted with 200 mph. I visited the KC Car Show this past weekend (it was awesome. There were some very very beautiful Corvettes on display!) I visited with a couple of the Vette owners and I asked them about the 300 mph speedometer outfitted in my car... They didn't know the answer so I am posting this to the forum to understand why my car has it?? These kind folks asked me if it was in metric??? No, when I am driving it and setting speed control, my indicator indicates mph and not km/hr.
Why would this car be outfitted with this particular option? To my knowledge, this car is complete stock with no mods.
BTW, I have tried to search the forum for the answer before putting this question out there. Thank you in advance for any information on this subject.

I believe some Canuck cars have that stock. And it's really not going to be only miles or kilometers since you can switch the car from english to Metric. It will only determine how the speedometer is calibrated accordingly.

Thank you for the reply Alex! Now that mention it, my car does have some Canadian in its pedigree (from Car Fax records). I guess the car was built for the Canadian market and somehow found its way back to the states?????

Yes, your car must have the export version of the gauge cluster - they did show 300 versus 200 on the speedometer. Kind of to have that in the car.

All Canuck cars (vettes) have the 300 speedo, not some.

I was afraid that someone would think that this crossed my mind
Nope, I am a newbie driver and am old enough to know that mass and speed don't mix well with a variety of objects on the road.. not to mention the irresponsibility of creating a safety hazard for innocent drivers.
Shucks, I was stopped by a policeman for speeding the day I purchased her. Its a long story but suffice to say I was following a Ford F-150 through an area of heavy deer density (early evening hour) and got tapped (64 in a 55 zone). Based on this experience, I believe these cars inherently attract law enforcement officers!!
At the KC car show that I visited this past weekend I got to see a ZR1 It was beautiful!.. I don't think it is even capable of using up all of that 300 mph!
Of course, there were alot of other great works of art at the show as well!

I had a 98 that came from Canada with the 300 Mph speedometer and it was a pain in the ***. Had to switch from kph to mph every time I started the car. Took a young nephew for a ride and jumped on it and got up to 100 kph before letting up. When I took him home he ran into the house and told his Mom we were going over 100 mph. The look on her face was priceless

Weird. My car is Canuk C5 and I don't need to reset the M/E button every time I start the car, just when ever I disconnect my battery. Sounds you had ground/charging issues.

Correctamundo. Eurocars and Canuck cars have them. You can convert the Celsius to Fah and the Kpa to Psi on the Oil pressure. Did it in mine and looooooovvvvve it
