why exactly are u moving it? as far as on the inside there is a metal brace that has to be cut
Im doing a gauge panel across the top of the bezel, then a double din pioneer , & the hvac on the bottom. I just dont know what needs to be removed on the rack inside to do this.
I did it and it fits with no problem. Once you pull your center console, remove the center brace under the stock radio by removing 4 rivets which hold it in place. Now you can move the HVAC controls to the ashtray area. You can drill new mounting holes but I would recommend using Velcro to hold it in place. Once you put the center console back, it will push against it and keep the controls in place. I am currently using that method and it has been fine for a couple months now. Also check the audio section for more info. Hope this helps and good luck...

Hi is going all the way down Jarek. Not like the normal DD lowering.
Shouldn'd be a problem as the A/C controller is consderably shallower than the head unit and there is lots of room in the stack near the bottom. I recently did a dd Kenwood HU installation and cut both brackets out to make room for the HU. I had to move the A/C controller down about 3/4" to line up with the new dd bezel from Double D Mods. You will need to do some trial fitting to make sure you have the clearance you need if you go very low - the ashtray screw hole mount may be in the way if you're at the very bottom but it should not be a problem to adjust everything to your new location.
Here's the stack before cutting . . .
. . . and after cutting the support brackets out.
The rivets that hold these brackets in are a bear to drill out so be ready with hardened bits. I also used a right-angle drill adapter.
I reinstalled one of the brackets for extra HU support.
If you're just talking about moving the HVAC unit down to where the ashtray goes, I did mine and didnt have to cut anything metal behind the bezel, just bent the ashtray brackets back so the HVAC fits.

You will have to cut the bezel so the HVAC lays flat against it (the ashtray is canted). And shim the screws on the right side so it angles a little toward the driver (thats how the opening is on the bottom). Add a small piece of weather stripping across the bottom of the opening where the bezel meets the HVAC face (very small but visible space if left out)

You have exactly what im looking for. I went ahead and cut the ash tray brackets out today.
It takes a bit of trial and error to figure out how much plastic to trim behind the flip up door. The fit is mostly dependent on how much time/effort you put into it. If you decide to drill the HVAC contol panel on the sides to bolt it down, it drills no problem. I was concerned that the plastic would be too brittle and crach. It wasn't a problem though.
I removed the cig support brackets as was mentioned above. It seems to me that a little more trimming was required of some of the plastic ribs on the back of the plastic surround.
I removed my radio to put my data acquisition display in its place. I relocated the HVAC controls a year later to install a bank of switches. Fit and finish aren't critical to me. Some day I'll go back and clean it up.
Dont know wht you are using to print the lables on those switches but you could either print them all at once on one sheet and apply the whole sheet to the panel. Although you would have to settle for a light grey backround (Like the HVAC) with black letters (not sure Ive seen a way to print white letters on an inkjet, could be wrong though). Or if using a lable maker just print each row as one strip to even them up :-)
Love the "cockpit" look you have going there All you need is the shrouded Master Arm switch for the weapons system.
