I'm bias towards the hardtops, just get what you want. If the vert ends up being a problem in the long run you could always get a removal-able hardtop and just take it off when you feel like it.

i totally forgot about those. i know c4's had em but totally did not think the c5 did. so basically it'll look like a FRC? guessing they are pretty expensive though?
I have never cared for Verts because of the added wind noise.
Buy they look way sweet with the top down.
I chose a Coupe and take the Targa off from April til October here in Vegas.
Both of them look nice. Hard choice.
If you plan on driving most of the time with top up or as you day it's a DD so I'd you drive to work etc are you going to be putting the top every time you park the the Coupe may be a better choice as the top is manual.
My wife has a TBird with the removable HT and the top is electric. Much better then the Vette Vert
Depending on the removable top it will generally look like a frc. However they range any where from around 2k-6k plus it still comes unfinished. Not to mention you gotta find somewhere to store it when not in use and if it starts raining while you're out your SOL. In addition to the fact that unlike the coupe there really is no simple way to just stuff it into the trunk.
tough choice... with your weather, the coupe would probably make more sense, but the red vert looks sweet... but the black looks great, too!!!
don't know about the prices up there either, but i'd say they seem to be at least $5K too high.
Two great looking Vets. If you were a little further south maybe the vert. I've been up at your neck of the woods and the sunny days are, let us say, few and far between. Black is a bear to keep clean but sweet when it is. Go with the coupe. IMO
#1 Comfort and Security of a Hard Top
#2 Large Storage Compartment
#3 I can take it off and go Topless in about 30 seconds.
#3 Is why I chose a Coupe over a Z as well.
This.
When I started shopping for a C5 in earnest several months ago, I gave serious thought to the Vert as well--until I saw how much cargo space it has. If you like to pack your sticks and head to the golf course occasionally OR if you're like me--have a girlfriend who does NOT travel light for weekenders--go with the hardtop.
Lot's of folks daily drive their verts. There are four in our parking lot at work and one of them is on the next street over from me, as I see him in his TR vert nearly every day. Many days we are leaving about the same time so we end up driving in together. Sort of neat two red C5 verts.
At cruising, sure a vert will be slightly more noisy but its mostly tire noise I hear. As far as top down driving, I much prefer the vert over my previous coupes. Too much air buffeting.
The price seems right on both, nice find on either very low mileage vettes.
Here's a question, are you particular on how the vehicle looks? Will it bug you if you see dirt and such on the finish much of the time? My first vette was black, drove me nuts trying to keep it clean. So you might want to consider that. Personally I'm not a fan of black.
What about the interior, I presume both of them are in excellent shape. How's the driver's seat in each?
I didn't see where you mentioned what type of transmission. If they are both automatics, you will not need to worry about the ECL issue. Otherwise the M6's are still affected by electronic column lock issues/recall. If any of them are M6's, you need to verify if either has had the bypass module installed. Also if they are M6's some folks add a bypass module to the CAGS (Skip-Shift), if you can go into second when the skip-shift light is on, then most likely it has a bypass module installed. If you can only go into fourth while the lamp is on then it is original.
I looked at both before buying a couple. The reasons were; wind noise, cargo space and security. It is your choice. I prefer the lighter cars to the darker ones since the lighter ones are easier to keep clean. The silver or light tan colors do not show dirt at all.
I think if it is going to see weather on a frequent /regular basis,,i think you would be happier with the coupe in the long run!! You yourself said the top would be up most of the time. Pop the targa and you can still get air time!! Look for a Z06 or FRC if you like the roof line!!

Of those two, I would lean towards the vert - and a lot of that choice is based on the color - I simply would not own a black car again. Either car would make a good daily driver though.

dirt does indeed bug me. both vehicles are the a4 and both interiors, driver seats are in great shape.
