Hello forum addicts. I am currently in a purchasing conundrum and wanted to get the feedback from a few other sources other then family and friends.
I've been looking for a clean unmodded corvette in my area for quite some time and I think I may have found one. It's a 2002 blue coupe, 6-spd, black interior, HUD, non-adjustable suspension, and 11k miles on the clock. She has garage kept this thing since she bought it and even still has the original window sticker from purchase. Now onto the price, she is asking 22.5k; personally I think that is a little high considering the kbb at around 18.5k. So what would you the people offer? I do really like this vette and I'd like to offer her a fair "counter-offer" so to speak.
You just said you've been looking a long time. If you pass on a car with these credential over a couple of thousand, you're not serious about buying. You can buy one with several times the miles for a little less, but I think you already know what you should do.
Just noticed that you're in Hawaii. KBB doesn't take into account the cost of getting a car shipped. If it's local, buy.
I definitely agree with kbb being quite off when it comes to prices. It also is local-ish it's on another island so it's going to he about $400 to move it over time oahu. Not that big of a deal to me. I think I'm going to throw 20k on the table and see where that gets me.
Explain to the owner without insulting her that you are interested, but can't quite get to the asking price.
Is 20k out of line?
Then it's your call after she answers.
22.5 seems high to me.
Good luck.
As others stated, you can always offer a lesser amount and go up if you have to. Considering condition, mileage, location, and your interest, paying $22,500 is a fair asking price and I'd BUY!
Good luck on what ever you decide. Having lived in Hawaii, and enjoyed my Vette there, it's a full "paradise package!" Enjoy!
It's worth what she's asking considering the mileage and history.
It is basically a new C5 with great options, color, a 6 spd trans and needs nothing. The tires should be fine. Start out offering less but don't let it get away. It's worth $22K IMO. Nice find.
Sounds like a fair price. I would offer lower and use the old dry tires as a bargaining chip maybe. Mine is a 2000 w 34,000 miles and I would not sell less than $ 22,000 (it is stock). Thats because it is everything I want and is like new
i certainly don't mean to be disrespectful to all who have provided their opinions here, but in my opinion (yes they are like a-holes we all have them, lol) the car is worth EXACTLY what it worth to you. how much is your time worth?? how much is it worth to finally end your search, etc. is the 22.5k a bit on the pricey side (compared to what)?? maybe, maybe not for a really nice, clean 11k miles car in your neighborhood. are you planning on flipping it for a profit (i didn't think so)? are you worried about resale value at the end of the year (i doubt it)?? the only thing i would caution you about is to make certain if you are planning to use it as a daily driver type (as opposed to buying a stated value limited use type insurance policy), that your insurance company will take the purchase price and original purchase condition (miles, options, etc) into consideration when you insure it. remember to them it is simply a used car with a "book" value. if god forbid it is parked in front of your house and gets wiped out by a garbage truck, you want to be assured you can get at least decent return insured value for it. other than that, i repeat my original thought, it's worth what you are willing to pay for it.
