Default Nitogen in tires

What is the general feeling of filling your tires with nitrogen? My location shop said it is the best thing next to white bread. They claim that is runs cooler, in the cold I don';t have to add air, etc, etc.

They want $10.00 per tire. I planning on a road trip in the spring down to Bowling Green.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I wouldn't pay 5 cents per tire.

I don’t know guys I lost 2lb of rotating mass per corner using nitrogen. It's not worth the $10 a tire.

The only effect is full nitrogen will not leak down as much as air.

Air is already 80% nitrogen. The nitrogen molecule is larger than oxygen so it takes longer to pass through the tire.

Air will lose about 1 lb/mo. and pure nitrogen about 1 lb/6 mos.

It does not achieve any other benefit that some claim. Longer tire life - better cornering - better balancing as one local dealer claims.

Holds pressure longer and all other claims are bogus.

The municipality that I retired from used nitrogen for its 150 vehicle fleet to reduce failures that might occur with low tires. Like the leo's not keeping their squad tires checked.

In the tire business, it's called a "profit center." I call it

Nitrogen is best used in refillable race car gas shocks -- and those on airplanes (which is why aircraft service centers usually have it on hand.)

Save your $.

When I bought my last set of tires I asked the owner of the tire shop what he thought about nitrogen and even he told me to save my money and not to bother! He offers it because a lot of people request it, but he says it makes no noticeable difference that he has noticed in his own vehicles.
