i understand the problems are associated w/ the rings. if you would replace pistons with performance "forged lower compression" piston/rings would that fix the problem completely. it seems like a pretty good deal could be found on a burner 01 z, with the money saved to lingerfelter.
Forged pistons will typically pass more oil because they have to be fit with more clearance than the OEM hypereutectic cast pistons. You don't really need new pistons, but whatever piston you run, the '02 ring package is the way to go.
boxter, as Duke said, Forged will use more oil than cast.....for the reasons he described.
But, since you are considering a LPE SC, then by all means go forged, and around 8:5-1 on the CR.
They will do the job RIGHT the first time......unlike GM.
