Default Fuel Gauge Issue

Hey Guy

The fuel gauge in my 03 Z only shows 1/4 tank even though I filled it up, are these cars known to have this type of issue? Has anyone had this issue and if so, what can be done to fix it? Oh yeah and also my HUD shows 1/4 tank too. ???

This is one of the most notable C5 problem. You need to run a couple of tanks of Chevron with Techron to clean deposits that form on your sensors. I just always use Chevron gas, and no more problems. A bottle of Techron additive will also work.

Stay away from cheap gas stations. You get what you pay for.

I fill up with Chevron only since it already has techron in it...

Go get a bottle of Techron (the one for the 20 gallon tank, not the 15 gallon tank), put it in, and fill up with either Shell 9x or Chevron 9x.

You may need to do this a couple times.

I've also heard Seafoam works, but I've never tried it myself. Techron is cheap and easy and works.

I use a can of SEAFOAM, usually every time I change the oil. I had an issue with my 2000 vert., and the SEAFOAM worked and no problems for over 4 years. I have never experienced a problem with the 03 Z, however, but I add the SEAFOAM as a precaution. You can get it at Wal-Mart and other "fine stores".

There are two fuel tanks in the Z06 with a pump that pumps from one tank to the other. When you use cheap gas the sending units get deposits on them and your gauge on the dash will drop to empty and stay there until you reset your DIC error codes. You don't seem to have this particular problem.

You should go into your DIC codes. There are hundreds of posts on how to do it. It will display the error codes the car has logged. You should have some that if you google them you might get an idea of what is going on. You can also hold the reset button after you wrote them down, until you hear a beep, and that erases the codes. Doing this might be enough to get your gauge working properly until the next error condition occurs.

Let us know what error codes you are getting...

Here are the directions:
http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm

I realize you are new at this but some basic computer/internet knowledge will get you what you need to know. Click on the top search button WHICH IS COMPLETELY USELESS MODERATORS!! and then click in the drop down menu the line that reads: "click for advanced search"

On the next screen you only need to work on 3 THINGS:
1) KEYWORDS: Enter what you want to know, in this case DIC CODES
2) Just below "keywords" click the drop down menu and select "SEARCH TITLES ONLY"
3) Go to the "SEARCH IN FORUM(S) section and select one or more forums to search. Obviously you want some or all of the C5 forums.

Then click the "SEARCH NOW" button at the bottom.....

I use this search daily and it works great for finding things....

I'd have to say BP is one of the worst gasolines you can use. Arco and Thrifty gas clogs injectors. It's not a top-tier fuel. 3 of my 4 cars had problems with it, so I stay clear of it now.

I think Shell and Mobil are decent quality, too, but I just always use Chevron, if at all possible.

Use SEAFOAM anyways. It is a great fuel system cleaner and will help prevent this from occurring again, unless the sensor is going bad.

The TECHRON is good, but SEAFOAM is the BEST!

And use top tier gasoline too. i.e. SHELL, CHEVRON.

Guys I know of cars that have run Chevron with Techron always in a local club that have still had the Gauge issues with the fuel gauge. In my eyes the problem is either going to happen or not. All you can do is try and keep cheep gas out of your car. I have never used Seafom, but maybe it is worth using. Also I have not had this issue with my guage yet, but oddly enough I have been using a Toptier gas from Quicktrip always.

SEAFOAM is the BEST!

Make sure you put it in prior to pumping your gas and then washing it down with the fuel. This stuff is a hidden gem!
