Got my MGW in the other day. I don't want to install it now. It just looks too nice! I must say that it is one fine looking piece of machinery and to have it covered by the shifter boot would be such a shame.

I installed my MGW last year and have been loving it ever since. Definitely notchy, but shifts like butter (even 5th/6th and reverse). I also have a McLeod dual-disc clutch and RPM IV tranny. You'll love the setup! Have fun!

Look what I did today:

Got everything taken apart. It was pretty easy and straightforward taking everything apart.

Did some reading on the demon key and decided that I would exorcise the demon key:

And this is the end result:

Yep, even had time to go get some Sonic (strawberry fruit slushy) after I got everything taken apart and decided that I wasn't even going to mess with the demon key.

Took me about 1.5 from start to finish with the Sonic trip and going out to grab a hacksaw.

Shifts very smooth. The shift from 2-3 and 3-4 is incredible. Just drove it briefly, will have to get used to 4-5 and 5-6. You don't have to "find" the next gear anymore. I love the centering and how it centers itself from 2-3 so you don't miss 3rd.

The MGW came with an installation CD with big pictures, the ball on the bottom of the shifter was already greased, new bolts, new gasket and even the hex keys. I bought a race **** as well, the **** threads were greased already. I just reused the old bolts because I'm going to be dropping the trans in a couple of weeks and the shifter is going to have to come out again anyway.

I'm might look into a better looking shift boot because the stock one looks like a midget now!

Love mine. Had it about a year. Was very tough to get into gear at first, but after a couple of weeks its awesome! Very notchy, but short and precise shifts.

I agree...2nd to 3rd is SWEET!

I installed mine last night. I'll snap a pic when I get back into town. Definitely tighter, and the boot does look a little weird now. I love the shifter though, it feels so positive going into gear and feels like it locks into every gear.

I have a C6 shifter in my C5, but I'm getting the bug to explore an after market assuming it has a shorter throw and is quiet. I can't stand a rattling and buzzing shifter, which is why I went with the C6 instead of the after market stuff at the time. Is the MGM shorter throw than the C6 and is it quiet?

YES and YES! I've never had a C6 shifter but I've read that the shaft is actually close in length to the stock C5, but it is bent so that the throw "feels" shorter. The MGW is 30% shorter and very quiet (I've never heard a peep from it so far!). Here's a pic of my setup with a C6 ****:

Good luck!

Snag some more pics of that race ****. I'd LOVE to see it from different angles. I'm having a really hard time deciding between the c6 ****, or the race **** by MGW.

Will do. It'll probably happen tomorrow when the sun is out and lighting is better.

FYI....The OD is a "little over 1.75". When installed it is not any taller than their Gripper ****. It will sit lower than the stock C6 ****.

I am looking for a short shift for my 04 Z06. I had a Hurst on my 02 coupe which I did like but I keep hearing good things about the MGW.

Has anyone had the Hurst and the MGW as I am curious to know what you thought about the two.

It looks good! Thanks for the pictures. I'm still on the fence between that or a c6 ****.

Such a hard choice.
