I was thinking about going to Maxton this year, and was curious if anyone could help me project a top speed. My car is a 2001 Z, and makes 528 rwhp and 525 rwtq. I want to make sure I have the right equipment so that I don't get asked to leave. Any help with the estimated top speed would be appreciated. I have stock gears in the car. I'm guessing the track is relatively close to sea level. I know I need a chute at 175, but am not so sure that the car will get to that speed. I already have the proper belts, seat, and roll cage.

 

For anything over 150 you need a 6 pont and 5lb fire system 175+ requires a cage and 10lb fire system + race seat with head support and many other mods. Not to forget arm restraints, sfi approved suit/gloves/boots/ and helmet, as well as sfi flywheel if manual. I'll be there trying for 200, of course I'm with all needed mods for the speed at Maxton. If your not wanting to modify the car to much the Florida top speed and Texas mile challenges are very leniant.

By the way with your hp and weighing 3620 (with me in the car) I went 180mph on pump gas like I drive it to the grocery store.

 

Are you limited to 135 mph for your first time, no matter what equipment you have?

You are limited to 120 for your 1st (licensing pass) run, each succesful run you are given the go ahead to run inteh next bracket and obtain that speed license (D,C,B, etc), so long as you car passes tech for that class.
When you register and tech-in on Friday, they will give you a rating and tell your max mph is. They will typically give you a 5mph buffer.
For example- I went a few years ago and I have a 6 pt, but since it was a convertible they tech'd me to 150mph. The class record was 151.08, and after I ran 3 passes, increasing from timed run (120) to D-license (135) to C-license (150), they gave me a buffer and I ran a 155.58 to set a new record.
My car had more in it, and for my last run on Sunday, I stayed in it and clocked a 169 and was told to park it for the event

Even if you are forced to run 135 and under, it is a blast to watch and run and I can't wait to go back!

 

First lisensing run is 125, then correct the 25mph subsequent incrimental passes after that. The big change for this year is the added head restraint and inertia switch additions to the rules. A fun event, but if your not wanting to abide by Bonneville'esque rules then you might want to try the Miami mile or Texas miles.
