This is somewhat true - the oil consumption issue was primarly an '01 problem, but my '00 (built 02/00) had the problem too. For the '02 model year, GM came out with a revised set of rings that were designed to eliminate the excessive oil consumption. I know they worked on my '00. While the car can still consume some oil, it may not show up as a drop on the floor or a leak. Mine never did either of those things, but the oil was burned off.
i just changed my oil the other weekend with it getting close to needing changed. i was getting the same low oil message before changing it and the oil level was full. I had mobil 1 in it with the engine swap that i had done and when i changed the oil put amsoil in just because i believe its the best oil on the market when oil comes close to needing to be changed the oil breaks down which also gives you low oil pressure like in my case
My guess is that your filter is the cause of your low pressure reading. The sensor is after the filter!! Fresh clean oil and a fresh clean filter would easily restore oil pressure. Members have posted increases just switching to Wix filters!!FWIW!!
If it were mine, I'd be interested in really how low it got. Some cars don't throw a warning light until it's almost critical. I would see if I couldn't get some kind of reading on the dipstick in the morning before I started it up. The oil is probably dark enough now to get a better reading than when it's clear. By the way, how many miles on the car and how many miles since the last change? It would just be interesting to know. Good luck
I don't know how many miles off the top of my head. I've owned my vette since 2007 and always changed the oil when the oil life meter was around 30%.
Its probably correct but probably nothing a top off wouldnt have fixed.
Just out of interest, the first oil change I did myself I put in the 6.5 qts that the book suggested and got an oil low the following day. Frightened the life out of me. I checked the dipstick - it was low - topped it up with another pint and no further problems. I always put in 7 qts now.
If it was filled to spec maybe it just burned off some oil to the point where the caption triggered.

I always run at least 7 quarts as well, sometimes I even put in 7.5. These engines can easily handle the extra oil and it's nice to have that extra margin of safety.
My question is, why would it wait to display the message a full quart short? I'm not an engineer but I would assume if it is not filled to spec, that anything less than the full amount is not a good way to drive the engine. A quart low is like 15% short roughly. Makes it seem like it is within tolerance to drive like that if the system is designed to wait for it to go a full quart short before displaying the message. Any ideaas?

Not a REAL big deal even if it a full quart short. Down a quart,,still leaves 5.5 quarts. If you put it in perspective that in the past,,even big production V8's ran a 4+1 system, The only way -1 qt. would be a serious concern would be road racing. Since continued high RPM and cornering forces would keep a lot of oil up in the motor ,,it would increase the chance of shifting continuous oil supply away from the pickup. In that application,,oil also acts as a coolant as well and loss of volume would affect that as well. On the street in regular driving ,,not a big deal. As for the level of activation,,production tolerances could explain why some hit early,,some not so early!!
When going to get my oil change this morning, there was NO message. Oil change was fine, got to talk with other vette owners, had multiple waves...good morning.
