2000 Check Engine Light / Fuel Sensor?
2000 Check engine LIght / Fuel sensor?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This morning when driving to work my check engine light came on? I also noticed that on my DIC the guage that shows the amount of miles to empty gas tank was moving from 249 back to 195 back to 125 and would not stay fixed on one number? Also yesterday I did fill my car up with gas. When I parked i did check unscrew the fuel cap and put back on but that didnt seem to help the problem. Any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem?

Seeing you have a check engine light I would pull the codes.

As Bill said you need to see what DTCs you have. Off the top of my head it could have something to do with an EVAP. Most likely the reason the fuel mileage is dropping is current operating mode of the engine. Perhaps after you pull the DTCs and clear them, the mode will be reset. However if there is a fault condition it will return to that mode.
