The only problem with the metal caps I ever had is that the ones I bought were flat across the top, and when tightened all the way down - they depressed the pin slightly in the Schrader valve....causing a slow leak.
I switched over to a metal domed style cap and the problem went away. So the lesson is make sure that you aren't overtightening the caps or get domed ones that give sufficient clearance.
