I just installed the aluminum ones with C5 logos from Ecklers. I have noticed a y difference. I do think my left rear has a weak battery but that's not the aluminums fault.
The transmitter and antena are in the epoxyed pack which rides inside the rim, the signal travels out through the tire towards the center of the car, not through the rim towards the outside world, so I would doubt anything you do outside the rim is gonna matter.
I never had a problem with mine, then when I had new tires put on the tire shop replaced them with ugly plastic ones. I called them and asked what happened to my metal caps and they said they always discard them and replace with plastic. Explanation was that they can corrode and cause problems. I've done business with them for years so didn't argue the point, just went out and bought some new ones with the C5 emblem and have not had a problem with those either.
Not true. The original sensors on my 99 made by Schrader in CT, it came with with metal
caps marked as well.
One thing to watch is how the aftermarket valves fit with different aftermarket caps.
I did have a slow leak when an aftermarket cap bent the inner removable valve slightly.
The reason the metal ones are bad is because they corrode to the sensor. Here in Wisconsin the road salt is what causes the corrosion. Since we do not drive them in this weather it is not a problem. Nissan is recalling vehicles right now that have sensor caps corroding to sensors and are putting on plastic ones. Two days after I purchased my vette I took off the metal ones and put plastic ones on, sensors are too expensive to me for a valve stem cap.

Incorrect. The metal valve stem, either partially or totally, serves as the antenna for the TPM.

Interesting. My '99, which I bought new, came with the "bullet shaped" gray plastic (nylon I think) caps, also marked with the "Schrader" name.
After my recent conversion to the newer, later style TPMS, the GM OEM sensors I received came with aluminum caps.
