replaced dirty air filter..???
on 01 Vette I purchased 2 wks ago, pulled the old filter, black & buggy, slipped a new one in, and I noticed my oil pressure was now 45 instead of 40. why would that be??? anyway it idles and sounds much smoother now.

No real idea based in fact. Some guesses,,,maybe in smoothing out the idle it is a few RPM higher or oil was a little colder on start up,,and you had been watching when warm. Pure speculation on my part!!

the 45 and 40 readings are based on starting the car from cold in the morning in the garage, outside temp about the same. the only diff being a clean air filter. as the car warms up the oil pressure would fall to 35 and now is 40 or a hair under 40 when warmed up. I ain't complaining, mind you. I like a little more oil pressure.

A word to the wise: When used car-shopping, take a look at the air filter, coolant, and tranny fluid (if auto tranny). If any or all look dirty, move on.
More than once, I asked a guy (after noticing that the antifreeze was yellow) when the last time was that he changed it. An answer of "I can't remember" is the wrong answer.
But getting back to your question, your idle speed may be slightly higher, which in turn would result in a higher oil pressure reading.
