Default wax and buffing?

Hello

I need your wisdom on using a polisher such as a porter cable or something similar. Is using a polisher the way to a good shine? I have always done the wax and buffing by hand but after reading many threads I see alot of guys use polishers. I guess I dont fully understand the benefits and how a polisher can improve the application of the wax and the removal.

Thanks for your input.

well some obvious advantages to a buffer are: quicker/ less elbow grease/ more revolutions than your arms can handle...just more user friendly IMHO..

Much easier on application, covers area more times in a single motion and great for light scratches. I remove the wax by hand and not with buffer and not all buffers are created equal. I am told the proter cable , griots garage style are some of the best.

Yes a Porta Cable buffer will give you a better shine if used correctly and with the proper products. The advantage of the orbital buffer is it will not cause swirls or burn the paint. There is more than just polishing the car. The paint surfaces must be free of any contaminates for the polish to do what it is intended for. Also after you have polished the car a cat or two of a good quality wax is need to protect the finish.

can't beat the porter cable for ease of use, much better finish and much quicker, you will save on product as well, but use only a good product like Adams.
Polish give you the shine and a good wax protects your polish.
anyone one still polishing by hand are just stuck in a rut.

Proper prep and a machine polishing are the keys to a good finish.
Wash, clay, wash, machine polish, lsp (in my case Zaino).

like SeanME said buying a cheap auto store polish will not do it, don't be a cheapskate, ya spent a lot to buy your car and a good bottle of polish will last a year or two so it ain't expensive, I don't even use the cheap s#it on my hack.

Most professionals use the Porter/Cable 7424. That should answer your question.

I have a PC 7424 and like it.I use it mainly to do some light buffing.I clay all my cars twice a year and machine buff some after every polish, then wax and hand buff off.

to reiterate what has been said here: for applying wax a PC will not give you a better shine than by hand, however it will make your life easier.

for polishing the paint (with compounds and polishes) a machine will be FAR superior than what your hands can do
