I have been scratching my head on this crackling speaker. I need to ask the experts!
My setup is this:
avic d1 head
focal 165kp with crossovers in front
focals in rear (not sure the model)
jl audio 300/4 amp
The problem: very loud crackling noise from driver side door speakers coming from both the tweet and woofer, happens at all audio volumes.
Troubleshooting:
Since the fronts have crossovers, I swapped the driver and passenger door crossovers.. Problem stayed with driver door.
Next moved to the amp: I moved the RCA cables coming from head to the amp from left to right. Problem stayed with the driver side door.
Next moved to wiring: I had a spare speaker wire that I just plugged into the front left output on amp to the drive side crossover input. Problem still there.
OK, so in my mind, I have eliminated the crossover, a bad front channel off the amp, and the inside speaker wire from the amp to the front crossover.
What else is there? Someone please help!
(I know this should have gone to audio section--problem is my car is torn apart, and audio section isn't a fast mover. I would really appreciate some advice)
You obviously seem to know how to troubleshoot and you've done all the things I can think of to isolate the trouble from a technical/component perspective. So, I don't mean to sound condescending when I suggest that it may be a vibrating piece of hardware, grill, mountings or something like that in the door. The resonance in these doors can amplify even mild mechanical noise. I once had a fairly loud "fuzzy noise" on the passenger front that went away just by clamping down the grill mounting tabs. I've heard that even a loose "BOSE" label can create noticable noise.
Hey Tony! I have everything taken apart, so I am pretty sure that there are no free pieces that might be vibrating. Thank you for the great suggestion though!
Hi Rickko -- thats correct. I did not physically move the speakers from passenger to driver. I kinda cheated and just moved the RCA cables from left to right. Problems always stays with the driver door.
I thought it might have been the driver side speakers IF it was one (either the tweet or woofer) but BOTH are crackling.. but i guess both could have blown?
