Default New Double Din nav setup *pics*

I know there are tons of threads out there of these installs but I wanted to share mine!

I've been in my new house for about 9 months now, no idea where the time went. but I love the 3 car garage as opposed to the 1 car I had before

backup camera

GPS location. the GPS works great here, I have strong signal even while in the garage. its not hard mounted to anything so I was worried that it wouldn't sit flat and might not get good signal but so far its working very well

here's the work in progress

I installed the bezel and used some painters tape to mark the position where it should be if everything is fitted perfectly, the challenge was getting it to fit in exactly that position with the Z110BT installed

I took the risk and made the connection to the speed signal

for the USB and aux AV input I built a small connection box and mounted it under the console lid. I cut a small hole in to pass the wires through, you can't see them in the car. it is held in place with foam tape and is a solidly installed port for aux inputs. I use this frequently do I needed to find a good place to mount it.

building my replacement switchpanel, I rearranged a number of things and mounted a subwoofer level control I replaced my system amplifiers during this upgrade

Here is what the panel will look like. additional controls are planned for some of that empty space. I don't have this installed in the car yet since I'm waiting on some corrections to the bezel. I'm getting a replacement made due to a couple issues.

Here it is all reassembled.

So far this looks like its going to be a great nav unit. Pioneer has a Z120 on its way out but it sounds like the upgrade is software only and pioneer usually offers software upgrades so a 110 can be made into a 120 without any hardware changes!

I read the operation manual cover to cover (minus all the legal stuff) which I'd recommend to anyone else working on this, you can't possibly know everything this can do without reading all the instructions while sitting in the car to play with all the features.

does it look any good?

Looks great!! Very nice fabrication skills..
Once I complete all my performance & suspension mods, the first thing I plan to do with the interior is the DD with a leather wrap...

controls for the seat heaters of course!

I have an aftermarket seat heater set in the car, the dual seat 3 setting kit from PFYC. I love them! they were not too bad to install, and work great. temporarily I don't have the controls for them in the car since I am waiting on the replacement bezel, then they will be going back in.

Hey McGilles, looking great, man. I just finished my installation as well, but did not connect the speed sensor wire because I had no other reason to pull the gauge pod and just didn't want to mess with it. I'm still waiting for my new bezel to arrive, but notched out my old one in the interim and covered the gaps on the side with some painters tape that I sprayed flat black. Sounds ghetto, I know, but there has been a prolonged delay in getting my new bezel and I needed do something in the interim.

Looks great. I have one on order. One question though. From the pic I can't tell where you mounted that GPS antenna. Where is that mounted? Have a better pic?

The switch panel is especially nice. Did you make it or find it somewhere?

JMc, you'll find the navigation much better with the speed sensor wire hooked up.

Here's another shot of my temporary install. I placed the nav antenna directly ABOVE the head unit on the metal rails up out of site, but under the center vent. So far, it's working great. Terrific signal, even in my garage. No issues.

Not bad for a little bit of self-cutting and painters tape, eh? It'll do until Pat finishes up my Double D modded bezel with the carbon hyrdro coat.

I went with the Boyo plate cam. I had a body colored license plate bezel installed before and I was loathe to give it up, but decided that the chrome look on the plate frame was okay given the stainless exhaust plate below.

And hey McGilles, my apologies. I'm not trying to hijack your thread, brother. Just excited to have installed the same HU at essentially the same time as you. It's been an exciting week!

I build the switchpanel from scratch using 1/8" lexan. Its a replacement for a switchpanel I had there before which I made a couple years ago. I l learned from that one and this one is much better. I'll try to post up the autoCAD drawings I built it from.

it was hard to get pics of it. I removed the A-pillar cover, as far forward on the dash as you can get there is plenty of space there under that part of the pillar cover/dash pad for the GPS antenna to fit. its attached to the metal sheet that it comes with for best reception but isn't mounted to anything in particular there. The head unit says the GPS signal is strong and the GPS functions on the nav system work perfectly so it looks like a good fit. the wire for it is run down into the dash and over to the nav unit. its pretty easy to route wires through there.

I remember seeing your post where you showed your startup screen, it looked great! gave me the idea for the text to put on mine.

it is a very quick job which needs some refinement before its perfect but this one will do well for now.
