Default Static Cling Black Out Kit

My wife bought me a black out kit from Zip Corvette for Christmas for my 03 Z. I just got the car out of storage and back in my garage. I just put the kit on tonight and it is horrible. There is no way i can put something this bad on my baby. Anyone else have a black out kit from Zip? Am I doing something wrong? Anyone know where I can get a quality black out kit.

Thank you

What's wrong with it? Bubbling?

I don't have the blackout kit, but i've messed with static cling tint on my s2000 when i had it due to the plastic rear window and it's always worked out well. How r u applying it? Best way is to use a squirt bottle, drench both the piece you're working on and the tint, apply tint, squeegy it out. Same principle as applying any tint. Always turned out great with no problems.

It doesn't stick at all when it is wet so i dried everything really well and tried again. The edges don't stay down around the tail lights and the screwhole is plainly seen. It basically looks like I put black electrical tape full of holes over the tail lights. Electrical tape that doesn't stick.

Use water that's a little soapy, also spraying soapy water on the up side will make the squeegee slide without grabbing the material and moving it-you don't want to stretch it as you apply it,that's what makes the edges curl up.
I Put static cling blackouts on my front corners over a year ago,and it's survived many washes, driving in the rain, etc, and hasn't budged

Take your lumps and buy the real thing...I had exactly the same experience as Matt, then bought real plexi blackout but because of the law have blacked out 3rd brake and back-up lights and put black louvered on tail lights. Looks great. Rob

I blacked out mine with the plexiglass or acrylic version. I didn't like the center brake light so I skipped that one. The cover was too thick and I didn't like the look. I love the tails and reverse lights, though. Got it on here in the for sale forum. I think it was about $40-50.

I had a set on mine and never had a problem. I eventually replaced them with tinted LED lights. Remember, they require static to make them work properly. What I did after cleaning and drying all surfaces completely, I would rub them on a cloth to build up the static before applying them to the lights. Always worked for me. Good luck

I think heat from the lights will help them lay flat.

I had the same things except i got mine from i think ecklers or mid america. I put one of them on the tail light, thought "crap i just spent money on these", took it off and went to the store and bought VHT night shades, its a spray on tint and it looks awesome IMO, think about the night shades

Wow, so many bad comments on a product that's worth more than what you all say. I had mine on my car for 2 years no problems. The other black out kits are too dark and had to remove them. My set did not blow off in the wind, they covered the edges and looks great. I don't know what you guys did but looks great on my car. I removed them a year before I sold the car.

I had the static cling ones on for two years and a lot of washing and drivingduring that time. I cleaned off the lenses first with alcohol to remove any wax which will prevent them from sticking. That's the most important thing to do. I rubbed them first with a towel to charge them up. Putting them on the screen of the old TV's will also work. If they come loose, take them off and clean and charge them again. Don't try to stick the loose end on, it won't stay.
