OK after doing some reading on the forum, I think I need a new key FOB. It keeps losing connection with the car and I just replaced the battery. I have a 98. From what I've read, I can buy a new FOB for a 2000. This will work with my 98 but I will lose the passive lock/unlock, which is fine with me because I'm not a fan of it. So is there anything else I need to watch out for or can I just buy any new FOB made for a 2000? Is there a certain part number based on my receiver or anything like that? Also, any suggestions on the best price? Thanks for all responses.

I'm not sure about specifics for your FOB question, but I can tell you that I was able to purchase two FOBs from ebay for around $40 (I may have overpaid). I had no problem programming them for my 2004 via the DIC. I saw some exact replacements for your FOB on ebay- try searching these terms: 98 fob corvette
This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet, a long time supporting dealer here on the Forum.
There are several options on the fob and only your vin # or option codes can tell you which one you need. If you give us a call at 800-234-5284 and have your vin # available we will help you with your information.
I have heard some people say the newer ones will work, but according to GM they will not work as the operating frequency is completely different.
Any FOB for a '97-'00 Corvette will work. The FOB's for the '01-'04's will not work unless you change your receiver, which will mean you also have to change your tire pressure sensors.

I paid $19 for mine. The guy had to send me a few before I finally got one that the car would recognize but he didn't charge me a cent more. PM me if you want his contact info.

Not for his 98. You guys bragging about paying $20 used bought for the 01-04 and they won't work on a pre 01 car.
To Mechanix, order a new 2000 fob from Gene Culley at gmpartshouse.com. You'll get a new fob. You don't need a vin #, all 2000's are the same. You are correct in your original post, you won't have passive available. If you want that, Gene also has the 98-99 fob. It is a few dollars more. Don't make the mistake of ordering a used fob and end up with the same problem you have now.
