I have a 98 C5 I just purchased and was wondering if it is OK to run Shell gas in it since it contains up to 10% ethanol. Would not want to harm any hoses.
Thanks,
Julian
Shell is just fine. I think you'll find many people on the forum use Chevron. The Techron in Chevron gas will address a problem with cars that are not driven daily.
Just make sure you always use the highest octane fuel available.

Shell is now considered a Top Tier fuel - I think as long as you stay away from the El Cheapo stuff you should be okay. I realize that gasoline is gasoline....true enough, but the name brands have their own additive packages which is one of the reasons it costs more.
Chevron's package includes Techron which functions as a fuel system cleaner, and many people (myself included) believe that the Techron cleans the sulfur deposits that are known to accumulate on the fuel system sender, which contributes to some of the known gas gauge issues.
If Chevron is not sold in your area - you can add a bottle to a tank of gas and pretty much accomplish the same thing.
Shell is a good fuel. It's a top tier fuel, and your lucky to have it in your area. Here in SE PA, we have Sunoco, Exxon or just a no-name dealers? Feel privileged you have access to Shell gasoline.

All I run is Shell. We can't get Chevron in Mass. I know Shell is a Top Tier fuel but I was also under the impression that Techron is part of the Shell additive package in their gasoline. Am I mistaken?
When I first got my C5, last October, the car only had 27K miles. The car sat more than it was driven in it's 12-13 years since being born. I started having the fuel gauge issues. I only use Chevron or Shell premium gas. Still had the gauge problem. I poured in a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner and it solved the problem for a month or so. Then it happened again. I added another bottle and it fixed it again. That was at least 3 months ago and I'm yet to have the gauge issue come up again. I think the 2 bottles of Techron finally cleaned up the sensor in the tank and using the good gas helps keep it from getting gummed up again.
I figure i will add a bottle a few times a year just to be safe or whenever the issue pops up again.
ive had my c5 for about a year, and ive only used shell for about 5% of my fill ups. it caused my car to ping on two separate occasions. i usually use mobil gas. never had a problem with mobil. could just be chance though.
There are Chevron stations in the area just not as close as the Shell.
I think might alternate between the two.
Thanks for all the good answers.

During a recent (global warming) snowstorm/melt (2-3 inches of metling slush at the pump) I fueled my truck with 10% ethanol fuel and got a huge slug of water--it took me two tanks of non-ethanol fuel with added fuel treatment/dryer to get the vehicle to run right. BL= I will not put ethanol fuel in the Vette. I can get 91 octane without ethanol here in Idaho and that works great (avg 3000' elevation, so less octane req'd than sea level)

PS ethanol and water don't mix unless the ethanol is "Scotch" and the water is "Rocks"
