Default What is this vent for??

Hey guys...

This has always bugged me but I always forget to ask...

What the heck does that little vent do, on the passenger side footwell, against the tunnel? its like one inch by one inch... there's a tube going to it behind the carpet. What is it for? You can see it on this pic I took while my interior swap was in progress (note the diff. seats...) It's just above the floormat a few inches.

My guess is it's the floor vent for the face/floor setting on the AC panel. Should be one on the driver's side too; I know I can feel some air movement down there on my side.

It's there to equalize pressure at speeds above 175mph.

Also, I love the direction you're heading with your interior. Mind if I ask where you sourced those pieces with the tan trim?

Hmm, I don't have one on my driver's side, I'm pretty sure. I do know the floor vent on the drivers side shoots air out much closer to my feet than from where that little vent would be.

awesome answer! I'll stick with that for now. Oh wait... I have a Z06, I max out at 171.

I wondered the same. Could it be the intake for when the air conditioner is in "circulate" mode?

If not it must be the 175mph equalization pressure regulator. Or the rotator splint.

Thanks! I completed this project last year... Here's the end result.

As far as where the pieces with tan trim came from...
most of the tan parts came from forum member rcs128, who had a black/tan interior but went with all black. From him I got the carpets, door panels, glove box, knee bolster, door sill trim plates.

According to the dealers repair manual that is a air outlet duct (passenger side only)

Love the interior. That's what I have been hoping to do down the road. Not sure why, but I always go with black and tan.

Looks great. How did you get the leather color/texture to match so well mixing 3 different vendors? I'm considering similar interior upgrades and I am also looking at 2-3 vendors.

Checked it out. Ecklers calls it Passenger Side Lower Air Conditioning Vent. Says it is "stock air conditioning vent manufactured by GM or one of its authorized suppliers." It also says it represents "a sound investment in the restoration or repair of your Corvette."

Who writes this stuff? What horsesh**t

Oh, and they want $8 for it. And probably at least $8 for shipping.

Well, if you look closely they aren't exactly matching... now, Vette Essentials and Carskinz match each other PERFECTLY in shade. The tan pieces from DJM (this would be the tan portions of my seats, plus both boots) are very slightly "yellower". Not so noticeable with the seats because they're not as close to other tan parts as, say, the ebrake and shift boots. the **** and handle are from Carskinz, and you can see where those tan swatches match up to the DJM swatches on the boots. Slightly off. But, I can live with it for now, I'm happy.

So the question remains... wtf is that little tiny vent thing for?? we've established its an air duct of some kind... possibly a/c related. someone MUST know... where's Evil-Twin when you need him?

I was going to say its the vent to cool the flux capacitor but I like the equalizer at 175mph better!

You guys are oh so close. It is an air vent.

It's the optional "James Bond" poison gas air vent, used to neutralize your passenger should you be held prisonor and be forced to drive your captor to his secret lair.

From the GM website..."in the event the car is stolen, the owner can use the second remote key fob and press the top button twice to have the exhaust send all fumes directly to the cabin, thereby disabling the driver until you can locate the car and beat the c--- out of him".
