Amherst. That's to bad your wife vettoed the ta/camaro. I'm still looking to add a good ole 2nd gen 6.6 TA to add to the stable myself. Absolutely gorgeous machine.
bought mine when i was 32 now almost 35.i was looking online for a new truck when i mentioned to the wife i wanted a Vette(after telling her for years) she caught me off guard and said to go for it. now i've filled her in that i will never be without one.almost 3 years and i still get giddy like a little schoolgirl whenever i drive it!

To be honest, I can get a classic F body if I'd like, she just won't be seen in it. She doesn't have the same nostalgic appreciation I do....I think Kevin Spacey's Formula in American Beauty ruined it for her!
Besides, the Vette is a way better solution for a number of reasons:
1. value - $15k buys a low mileage 99 Vette or a higher mileage semi-restored T/A. The T/A will squeak and rattle like crazy and the mechanics are archaic by comparison. Rust is always a problem with 2nd Gen F-bodies.
2. performance - I owned a '77 TA in high school and a '79 Z in college. They were quick in their day but nothing like a C5.
3. durability - most C5s can be awesome bullet-proof daily drivers and that's not the case with a 30-33 year old GM product.
I did find this photo from 1982...the start of my muscle car love affair (funny how 28 years later I buy the same white on black color combo!)
I'm with you. I turn 64 next Sunday; I bought my first Vette at 24, a 66 big block 427/425 roadster. This in my forth one. People may say that 64 is old, but it is really how you feel about age. I can slam the gears of my MN6 real well and probably better than some of the younger generation drivers. In many case, I was driving a Vette before some of the forum members were even born, so the age question can be a little annoying.
I am with you will be 62. Purchased my 1st Corvette when I was 19. 62, 327 340HP 4 speed. I haved owned 10. Still run and win autocross events.
Parents buying you a Corvette does not count.
