Looking at a car on ebay and saw this silver gas cap thing.... Not my style at all ... Wondering can these be removed without damage to the paint ? How are they typically attached?

Not sure if it is a replacement fuel door or just applied with double-sided tape. It actually looks "stuck" on.

To answer your question, I am sure it can, just don't know to what extent you will have to go to do it.

I do agree....it HAS to go !!

Not sure what the owner was thinking of when he/she put it on, but I agree it has to go.

I believe there are three easy to access screws and the whole cover can be swapped out... So even if it's aftermarket and not sticky tape, you can pick a new one up and swap it out pretty painless, especially on a black car...

I worried about having to paint a door ... or if these were mechanically attached to the original door in some fashion ...

worse case, you have to buy a replacement and have it painted. $200- so build it into your offer??

It went on there, it has to be able to come off. Hopefully it is just stuck on - the seller should be able to answer that question. But in any case, taking it off will be a big improvement.

I hope this is not against site rules for listing auctions but I am only doing this for info only and really doubt anyone here would consider buying the 1st one I have listed. The other 2 are just to show the prices for new lids.

they are on the auction site.
item # 380206570664

below is text from the ad
Made from High Quality T-304 Stainless Steel

Fits all C5 Corvettes 1997-2004

Wont Rust, wont peel and easy to clean with chrome polish

Covers existing Fuel Door

Installs in Minutes with supplied 3M automotive adhesive

No screws, no drilling!

after looking at that look at item # 200425442371 brand new OEM never installed primer $80

or item #110492229732 OEM in all colors including black for $45

These are not my auctions and I have nothing to do with them other than remembering seeing them when I was searching for a switch to open mine from inside when mine broke a couple weeks ago.

You can almost alwasy get an already painted black one for $50 - $100, in the parts section here or on the big auction site...

Looks like you already have some answers for the gas cap.

I noticed something else about the car- it could just be me, but it the rear wheel appears to look like a stock wheel, but the front wheel does not. The front one looks like a knock-off of the stock wheel (the spokes appear thicker than OEM). Certainly is peculiar... I would want to know the story behind that if I were purchasing the car.

You ask the owner if they still have the original laying about?

If not, there's a handful of forum vendors and the FS section that'll be available to you.

If it is a replacement door, maybe the owner has the original that can simply be reinstalled. Good luck, Ron
