Default Cam Question

Hi Guys,i have an 01z with cai, headers and exhaust and 4.10 gears. I want to put a cam in and was wondering whats the best one to go with. Don't have the money to do any head work so keeping heads stock. Want something streetable with nice lope and power. One last question is i'm thinking of doing labor myself but was wondering if i'd be way over my head? No lift in garage so only jack stands. Any help is appreciated. Never did anything like this but not afraid of turning wrenches and don't have funds for a shop to do the install.

This would be a good cam for the mods you have. I would get it on a 112 lsa. That will give you a choppy idle. If I were you though, I would get their cam kit with new springs. Sure, you can do it yourself, there are plenty of threads on this forum dealing with cam swaps, and when you get right down to it, its only nuts and bolts. You wil have to have it tuned though.

G5X1E.... or the X2... (LGM). not too hard on valve springs @ all... but pulls very well thoughout the powerband...

with 4:10's i would go with something with high 230's intake low 240's exhaust, like a MS4, g5x3 or something like this. the torquer 2/3 as listed above is 232(v2) 231 (v3) /234, better suited for the stock 3:42 gearing. my .02 cents . as far as the install, if you have some mechanical experience with cars(not changing oil) you should be ok. if you have any doubt in you abilities i would have it done at a experienced vette/lsx shop.

I didnt even notice that you said you had 4.10's. I have the MS3, and it makes great power.

G5x3.

I've got 3.90's and I am going with EG Whiplash II. It's a big cam, but I am shooting for 10's with the stock heads and need the top end.

I do have stock gears in my car. It does just fine with them. With stock gearing, 1st and 2nd gear blows the tires off the car. I cant imagine what 3.90's would do.

I have 410's. My cam is a tsp 233/239 on a 112. I also have TF heads. It made 432rwhp and 390rwtq, on a nitrous tune. There is some timing taken out to run a 150 shot. It traps 116 out here in Vegas where the da is very high. If it had a motor tune maybe 120.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm so lost with picking a cam it's driving me crazy. I read so many different posts with different combinations.I also see cam packages for $1500 with everything. Is that the best route to go or is it overkill? I'm assuming the springs and pushrods are important and they seem to cost alot. Where is the best prices on packages available?

Texas Speed has cam packages for under $700. Competition Cams makes the cams for Texas Speed, just like they do for LG, and for probably every other vendor on here.

What are your goals with the car, any concerns on drivability?

Well if your not obsessed with hitting a particular number on the dyno or track then I would pick a good mid range cam that will make good avg power. With stock heads, I'd recommend a 224/230 113+2 XFI Comp Cam...believe this is the same specs as RaginRacin Stinger cam, should make around 430/400

Our Stinger Cam is definately a track runner. It doesn't make the biggest numbers, but it has awesome torque and power throughout the whole power band. Give us a call and I'll be happy to go over all of our cams. I can also custom design something for you as well.
