Default Power Window Problem

Both power windows quit working at the same time this weekend. Fuse is ok and I can hear a click when I depress the window button. Any ideas to the cause?

I suspect the motor. Turn on the key, sit in the passenger seat, hold the window down button while you slam the door closed hard a few times. The motor armature is getting stuck and slamming the door may free it up for a while. If you like, I can help you replace the relay.

At least they nearly always fail in the UP position... could be worse!

If you can hear clicking the relay is probably fine. I had to clean up the brushes and armature on my car and it works great now.

It could be either one. Even though the relay activates doesn't mean the voltage needed to operate the window is making it through the relay contacts. Replacing the relay is the cheapest one to fix, but it may not be the problem. Swap the driver's side and passenger side door control modules and see if the problem travels with the module or if it stays with the door. That should help you narrow it down.

Warm motor means the motor is getting power but it is probably bound up. Slamming the door with the button pushed might free it up but it sounds like a new motor is going to be needed.
