I will be replacing my half shafts due to wear and what are my options other than the $2000 hardened ones?
I am running about 100hp over stock at the motor and have a moster stage 3.5 clutch setup.
My primary use is street and I may the Nitto 555s to hook up better and maybe take it to the strip once or twice to see what it can do in the quarter.
Kinda funny, no replies! After much searching this forum I stumbled across a post by its_go_time in C5 Tech and he used the C6 Z06 shafts to upgrade his differential. This suits me fine for the HP my ride is making.

I seem to recall that there's more to it than just swapping C5Z shafts for C6Z's.
Thanks Bulldogger, I talked with Mike Yeager at East Cost Performance and I am hoping my drivetrain slop is in the CV Assemblies since the torque tube couplers had been replaced 4k ago.
Mike took a few minutes to talk over the problem and make some recommendations on parts and for that I am grateful. He has some good prices and they look like quality parts which is more important to me.
Mike said with 66k the slop could be the CV assemblies, or the tt couplers again if cheap replacements were used. He went on to say that it could even be in the differential and hoped it wasn't.
I am not sure on a way to isolate the problem between the tt couplers and rear differential without dropping the whole assy. The driveability is not the worst and a late fall early spring differential replace/rebuild appeals to me because I want to enjoy my new baby. It is not the end of the world should it be the differential (Bought car right) and I have seen them go for $1295 and up.
The 2 piece race ramps should be here today and with them I can get the car up high enough to work under it this weekend.
Couldn't you jack up the rear and check the half shafts yourself? Should be able to tell if there is any slop rotating your wheel back and forth by hand... At least then you will know if it's something further in...
Those shafts are weaker then stock, one of our customers purchased them after we suggested otherwise, and broke them on the very first pass! btw, not one, but BOTH OF THEM! Plus the customer service is about as poor as the product.
We put his stock shafts back in (at 11pm on a Friday no less since he was racing in the A.M., got to love a quality product..) and he was back in action.
Either stick with stock, which has worked great all the way up to our eight second cars, or spend the money for the big dollar axle and hubs.
Thanks guys! Last night I could hear a clicking sound when rocking the car back and forth in the garage while it was in 1st gear. I am still waiting on the ramps, but I will jack up the rear end by this weekend to solve the mystery. Even though the tt couplers were replaced 4k ago with the monster 3.5 clutch I have no knowledge what brand/quality they were!
Finding and addressing these worn parts are my top priority and getting the headers and high flow cats back on (with tune) will take a back seat to the drivetrain fix.
If it is the differential than I must ask my self what is my current and possible future use of the car:
Mainly street, maybe a drag race or two at best and taking it to the dragstrip once or twice only to see what the car can do in the quarter.
Then I must try to decide what type of rebuilt differential to go with and what ratio too!
Unless the motor starts burning oil or gernades my current plans are to leave the motor as is with the G5X3 cam kit, Fast Intake, 90mm LS7 TB,
Haltech Cold Air Intake, monster 3.5 stage clutch setup. LG Pro LT Headers with Hi Flow Cats and Ti Bypass Exhaust.
Lastly if current setup lasts 3 or more years than I must ask myself is it worth buildind a stroker 402 or 416 or is it better to trade up to a C6 Z06 and start with 500hp and add bolt ons, or is it cheaper to do the stroker?
Currently the C6 Z06s are in the 30k range and in the future 20k or 22k is my target area for the C6 say in 2013 0r 2014.
I backed the car up the race ramps and while rocking the car the slop is not the Cv assys at this point. I will assemble a 2x6 (As posted under lifting your C5) a pad to lift the rear and further check the Cv assys.
What I did find is the clicking noise is coming from the front of the differential and sounds like it is the rear tt coupler. Is there something it could be in the differential? The ring and pinion is in the most rear part of the unit so I do not think it is that?
What is the flat rate hours to replace these tt couplers?
