You have to take the brake lights on the outside off with a t15 torx bit/screw driver, and then I think it's a 10mm wrench that you have to use to get the self tapping nuts off. Be carefull when putting them back in place, because the plastic shafts on the corner lights tend to snap off if too much pressure is applied or torqued too much. I shoved a shop light in there to see what I was taking off once I got the lens off, and that helped me a lot.

Yeah, to replace just the bulb you can do it from underneat the car, or by taking off the outside brake light lenses off with the 15T torx.
