The financial boat is finally starting to level off,,just got my new skins for the back,,so in order to help preserve them,,expired EBCM needs to be replaced. Scouted out some fair prices (the 2000 can't be repaired:ack) Just need to know ,,Is it just a plug and play deal?? Not too hard to get to,,but while mechanical stuff is no problem,,I'm kind of green with the electrical stuff. I learned a LONG time ago not to ASSUME anything!! Guessing it is plug in and go,,but guessing is not what I want to do with an expensive part!! I did pay to get a trace and diagnosis from a knowledgeable shop,,but for simple installations I hate paying someone to stuff I can do!! Thanks in advance!!
You will get about 2 pages of threads on this topic. Note carefully that the procedure you want is for the 2000 and earlier EBCM as it has only one plug and fewer screws to be removed to get it off the car than does the 2001 and newer model.
Thanks,,but I guess I got a little too windy in the question,, The crux of my question is is it a plug in and go or does something need to be re-calibrated or re-tuned??
Am I the only one who read this post and wondered what language it was written in?
Just kidding to the original poster. Just a friendly tease. But honestly, I didn't understand you. I'm getting old.
Having a little fun with you Gene. Please don't take offense.

No problem,,I do have a sense of humor!! I DO however hope to find out if it is going to need a calibration or tune though!! OR is it good to go after install!! Later,,time for some ZZZZZ's!!
I'm almost positive that it is a plug & go install, just as it is with the 01-04 C5s. I wrote a detailed, picture-filled procedure for the 01-04s but not the older C5s - sorry.
When you first investigated the new EBCM, did it say anywhere that the unit was model sensitive ? You know something that would say it needs a reflash to be in compliance with your perticular Corvette? If not then I'd have to say, buy it and plug it in and see if it works out OK. I'd disconnect the battery before I removed the old one and installed the new one. I hope I'm being helpful here.
I've read lots of threads on EBCM problems,,how to's and so on, even have some bookmarked!! But none that I can recall actually mentioned this point!! Done more mechanical stuff,,tune ups,motor/tranny swaps, motor rebuilds than I can count,,,,but the modern computer/electronics give me the *******!! Learning as I go!! Thanks to all that have replied so far,,,every little bit HELPS!! Guess I'll go for it and find out,,,,unless I hear something to the contrary!! Anybody know for sure??
Had it diagnosed,,EBCM (electronic brake control module). Was(still am) getting Traction control, active handling,ABS warning/codes,Lightning hit the ground a few feet away from the car late last summer and threw it into an electronic fit. Took it to a vet savvy shop and they traced down from the wheel sensors back to the module and declared it was shot. 2000's still have the old ones that are not fixed by ABSfixer. Sent them an inquiry email last fall,,and they never sent a reply!! Tracked down a couple of good price sources( one of them is Gene Cully here on the forum) and figure to do the install myself. Read several threads where absfixer refurbished newer ones for a couple of hundred!! So far the prices have run from $400 to $630 for the new ones. Just want to know if it's plug in and go.
Thanks,,,I'll have to check that out(give them a call)!! I'm under the impression that 97-2000 (mine is an early 2000) are not rebuildable!! It's worth looking into!!
I swapped mine (2001 A4) and it was completely plug in and go, nothing else to do (no programming, first start up see's the unit, doesnt get the fault code and the lights on the dash go out) The old code stays as an H (history) code but after you clear it, its good to go..
You can even use the car without the EBCM (if you had one of the newer ones and were mailing it away to get fixed). You would just pull it (pretty sure it was two bolts, six screws and two electrical plugs. You would cover the exposed face of the valve (what the EBCM connects to and drives) with plastic so it doesnt get contaminated/dirty, and wire tie the electrical plugs so they stay away from the fan/belts.
The car would drive just fine, although you wouldnt have AH or TCS or ABS for that matter, but it drives fine.
Thanks,,you answered another minor question as well,,driving with it out as well.I've been driving with the dead one in,,didn't know for sure about if it ran if it was out. I will be glad to get rid of the codes/warnings!! TC is on from the git go,,and active handling pops about 28 mph every time I drive!! Going to call the outfit mentioned above by Menderle,,if that is a no go (probable,,mine is an early 2000),,I'll be popping for a new one soon!! Thanks all!!!
