Hello CF members, question, on my convertable roof material I have issues with shiny or flashing spots where it seems the material is crushed or laying in another direction causing the shiny areas. How can I remedy this and have the rag look uniform again? Any ideas? I bought the car like this. Maybe it was put away wet or? Greetings, Rob
Possibly there is some substance in those areas and a thorough cleaning of your top would bring back uniformity. I've never seen exactly what you're describing so this is a "best guess" response.
Probably the previous owner stored the top down for extended times. You always want to put it back to it's closed position when not using. As stated above it rubs when stored. Small marks like that go away for me when I wash - use a recommended top cleaner and protectant - then let dry thoroughly before you even think about putting it down. But then again mine only has 11k miles on it. Good luck!
Thanks for the response, guess I will have to live with it. I drive almost exclusively with the roof down. Guess it is wear from being in storage while driving it rubs. Just that I have not seen it on other verts. Greetings, Rob

Since you leave the top down a lot, consider using some padding in the folds (of the soft top) while driving. Something as simple as a bath towel placed in the folds of the top will cushion the vibrations and ensuing wear points.

Get a horsehair brush and some Ragg Topp cleaner and protectant. Follow the directions and you will not have the problem (unless the canvas is actually frayed or worn). I had the same exact issue, just did mine Thursday and it looks brand new again; black top, 14.5K miles, '04.
