after a manual anyways. Is there any good resources to learn what options came with what cars in what years? there are just waaay too many questions to ask. I don't know near enough about these things to start narrowing down what I want.
thats a start. Thanks!! the z51 susp. package, is that the only susp pkg that included the magnetic shocks? Are they problematic?
The Z51 suspension DOES NOT have the "magnetic shocks". The z06 suspension was only factory installed on the z06 models. This suspension includes high performance springs, sway bars & shocks. The Z51 suspension is an upgrade over the stock suspension. This also has stiffer springs, swaybars & shocks. The z51 sway bars are not as large as the z06 setup. The F-55 (MSRC) Magnetic Selectice Ride Control was introduced on the '03 Anniversay edition and was an option on '04 coupes & verts.
PS. I have the MSRC on my '04 vert and it works quite well. One of the major drawbacks is the replacement cost of the shocks, they are $800 each.
If you want a Z06 and a hatchback you will need to get a C6. All of the C6 Z06s are hatchbacks. It just takes a bit more money but you get 100 more HP.
Get the newest you can afford..... I was told by ECS that the 99+ has a better ECU thats easier to tune and more mod friendly. The ZO6 came out in 2001 and is what you want if performance is your goal.

I've got some files that may help you with your buying process - including a Corvette Buyer's Checklist. If you'd like a copy, just PM me your e-mail address.
I know I want a 6 spd and I know I do not want a convertible (ragtop). Basically looking for something I can drive for a summer or two and turn around and sell it without taking a big hit. Idk that I really have a specific dollar amount I am limiting myself too, just want to buy it at a cheap price and be able to flip it in a year or so. I tend to think the newer I go they more those cars are still depreciating...
A quick look at autotrader shows C6Zs starting mid 40k, C6 coupe mid 20s to 30k, and C5Zs from the high teens to low 30s, depending on year/mileage. The C5s have pretty much run their major depreciation curve, C6s are in the middle of theirs and when the C7 comes out, gonna take another hit.
Newer Corvettes aren't necessarily the best return on investment, but they are definitely a whole lot of fun to drive....my 2cents.
