2003 6 speed very difficult to find reverse
I had mine serviced a few weeks ago - the fluid was absolutely terrible.
Shifting improved noticeably.
The stock shifters have an alignment pin to prevent this. Most aftermarket ones do not.
Most aftermarket shfiters have the travel or throw length adjusted with set screws ( llen screws) held in place with jam nuts.
Over time the jam nuts vibrate loose, the set screws turn in, reducing the travel or throw length and preventing you for going far enough forward to get into 1,3,5,R or rearward into 2,4,6.
Remove the shift **** ( pop off the top), pull out the demon key (vice grips , hammer.. while pulling up on the grips, tap the side of the grips sharply with the hammer, the key will pop out)
remove the center console, remove the bolts holding the shifter in place.
the adjustments should become obvious hour will need an appropriate sized allen wrench and the appropiate sized box wrench.
loosen the jam nuts, turn out the set screw, put the car in 1st, adjust the set screw to just touch the shifter shaft. tighten the first jam nut, check 1 again then 3,5,R if good tighten the second jam nut. If not lossen and adjust further.
After mine happened second time, after I was certain the adjustment was correct I used blue locktite...
while you are in there, check to make sure that the rearward nuts are not loose or you will be repeating this in the future.....
