I was riding through my hometown, in a section where I know there is usually radar, so I was going real slow. A local patrol car appeared behind me, and my detector went off. He finally lit the lights and pulled me over, asked for my license, etc. He said I was doing 27MPH, in a 25MPH zone. I laughed and asked if he was kidding. Apparently he was not.
I was actually on my way to volunteer bartend at the VFW. As I was looking for my license, he saw my VFW card. He very sarcastically says'"You served in the armed forces, I want to know where." I politely explained to him that my personal background was of no importance to him and that he should be more courteous to townfolk, no matter what the infraction.
He looked up my driving record, perfectly clean, and finally came back to my car. He said "Have a nice day, from one veteran to another." I politely came back with "They actually took you in the armed forces?"
Well, maybe not REAL politely, but I was pissed.
Unfortunately, that type of police officer gives others a bad name. I used to live in a town that was infamous for pestering young people who were crazy enough to live there (I was one, but for one year only.)

Result, no ticket.
Are you kidding They will take ANYBODY in the armed forces. I dont think there is a iq min or mentally challenged guidlines they go by.
That cop was probably having a bad day cause he just saw his paycheck...
As an LEO I can tell you one thing, the thinking that you are good for at least 10 mph over the limit is a courtesy, most if not all states are absolute. Meaning even 1 mile over you can be stopped and given a ticket.
But in this case it would seem that it was the car. And I am the POLICE syndrome. A lot of us are very fair about things, others can be donkey's. I am glad you didn't get a ticket from one of the donkey's.
I once got stopped in a town in NJ, right off from the Bayonne bridge for just as you, doing 27 in a 25, even got surrounded by three cars. No ticket though.
And then to be discourteous, that calls for a complaint, yes I would have made one and would tell anyone who has been discourteous to by LE to make a complaint. These type of officers do nothing for the rest of us who go out of our way to treat people as human's and not as the others.
Small town chickenship cop. The judge would have thrown it out, but it is still aggrivating that the A-hole pulled you over. I have a few cop friends and they use to get their jollies now and then by doing some of the same crap. I like the way you got back in his face.
Being objective, there was no doubting his attitude: he said things like "YOU" were in the armed forces...then he wanted details as if he was going to check up on me...
LEO's just like ANY large group of people end up having a cross section of human behavior.MOST are at least fair minded and reasonable ,,BUT there will frequently be a few that are on an ego trip!! I spent a few years as a local LEO,,had gotten a ticket with in the prior year,,and remembered how I felt. I was VERY fair,so much so I was "advised" to bring in at least ONE ticket a week!! I felt that for minor infractions just STOPPING the person was enough for MOST sensible people!! Takes all kinds!! Glad he was at least somewhat reasonable!! I would never have stopped some one for 2mph only,,you'd have to have done something else too!!

My posting is in no way meant to be a slur against LEOs. I respect them and have friends who are LEOs. I chalk this up to being an interesting experience, no bad feelings held; next time I will keep it at 25MPH. I am guessing that he wouldn't have pulled me over if I had done that.

Thank You for your Service to our Country!!
It's amazing how that piece of tin can change folks. Not all police officers are like that one. Keep the Faith!

Trust me brother there are more guidelines then you think. I was an Infantry basic Training Company Commander. There are quite a few gates that weed people out. Being a "dumb grunt" is a little more technical and then most people realize.
