Default Seat skins

Has anybody tried the seat skins off the auction site? They are $200 with free shipping. Obviously these are not leather, but then again the factory c5 sport seats are not full leather either. I am assuming these are hog ringed on I would hope though... When I bought my car I had an upholstery shop change out the side bolster on the upper portion of the seat with as close of a vinyl that they could find, which is almost identical. The seams are already starting to come apart, most likely from their crappy work. They did only charge me $80 bucks, so i cant really complain that it has held up for 3 years. I would like to accent my interior in black and grey or silver, but havent seen some good options. I have sewed some interiors up before and hopefully dont get the bug to do this one. The last one cost me an arm and a leg as real alcantara is very expensive, but it looked so good!
Please post your opinions and your photos if you have them. Also the price you paid for your skins if you dont mind. I have attached a photo of the one I was looking at.
Thanks!
Josh

You asked for opinions. I wouldn't put vinyl seats in my Vette.
The OEM seats do use leather for all the seating surfaces which is the important part of the seat.

I got mine from a vendor off the auction site but believe I paid around $575 shipped. Mine are leather...not the best quality though.

The only parts that are leather are the butt and the back, as far as I know. I could be wrong and someone may want to step in and correct me. I would assume that GM would make the side bolsters leather to withstand the in/out/in/out wear on the seat in that particular spot, but that is definetly not the case. rpm, you say the quality isnt the best on yours, whats wrong with them? They appear to fit VERY nice, except maybe one spot that is loose on the upper portion of the passengers seat which would face the outside of the car (the blue part) What condition was your foam in? I am pretty sure I am giong to need a new foam for my drivers seat butt section, as I believe a bigger man owned it before me. Hence the wear on the bolster and the flattening of the seating portion. My factory leather is looking really cracked out too, i think GM really failed on making these seats and that is why I am looking at aftermarket options.

Yes, they do fit good and that one spot looks better now that it's been on a while. The leather is not all that thick compared to what the top vendors like Vette Essentials sells but I've had them on for over a year and they still look new. The only foam I replaced was the seat bottom foam....I did steam the other foam pieces to get any indentations out of them. Mine is a 2003 so didn't have that much wear and tear on the foam as some of the older years I imagine.

My 99 OEM covers are all leather on the front side, vinyl on the sides and back except for the sides that touch the tunnel which are cloth. I just had them off for some seat mods.
BTW, changing out the seat foam makes a HUGE difference in an older Vette. I had to really pull to get my OEM leathers back over the new seat foam. I bought my new foam from forum member DavzC5 http://www.shop.djmotorsportaccessor...3?categoryId=7
his foam is way firmer than the OEM.

So that would mean that only the direct seating surfaces are leather. Do you like the firmer foam better or no? How is it holding up?

On my 99 only the front facing areas are leather......but that is where I want my leather all over would be nice, but not necessary to me.
Yes, I like the firmer foam better. Mine was not worn out or cut up, I just wanted to try a firmer foam.....and it happened to be on sale when I bought mine
