Huh, I also have a Silverado Crew as my DD. How to you keep traps set in a DD? Or do you? I've heard dryer sheets work also. Have to get some "installed". Can I borrow your lift?
They must like Silverado's, when I had a 2001 the mice were always chewing up the insulation on the firewall. I had a '94 and they built a nest inside the air cleaner.
Off topic, years ago a friend of mine brought her VCR in for repair, the guy in the shop pulled a dead mouse out of the door that the tapes fed into. She said "that explains why my cat was always staring at the VCR".
I would walk around your garage and look for any space the size of a dime. They can fit thru any space that size. I had a mouse problem a few years ago, I looked around my garage and found they were coming in at the broken garge door seal, and where the door meets the side of the garage foundation. If you find any holes or crack the size of a dime you need to use Steel wool to fill in the hole. They cant chew thru that and it will solve your issue.
I would also clean up the floor right against the walls of your garage. Mice have bad eyesight and use your walls as a guide thru the room. They will pee and poo un purpose to lay a scent that they follow each time they come in or out for fast entry or exit.
The garage door never sealed very well, so I'll take a look at it. Doesn't help that during the summer months the door is left open most of the day.
I did sweep up around the dump cans because of all the droppings. Like to get an outdoor cat but my Wife feels as though it's cruel due to all the other wildlife that may get it. I feel as though it's cruel to keep a cat inside.
You gotta deal with the mice now! I have gone through 3 blower motors in the Vette and just recently a heater core on my Trailblazer SS- $$$$ . Commonwealth Chevy told me why they think they keep going after the car (The tech said there was a bulletin from GM). The company GM uses for the wiring uses peanut oil in the resin used to wrap the wires, the mice think they are getting a meal. I have tried Decon, mouse traps, moth *****, everything. I always put moth ***** around when the cars go in storage (winter), lawn mower, snow mobile etc. This year it didnt/hasnt worked. The cat has now been relocated from the house to the garage.
I bought the decon and the mouse traps at the same time. Used decon before with pretty good success. BTW, also works on voles. They are nasty little plant eaters. Few years back they destroyed my lawn and took out most of my Wife's plantings.
Want to use the traps first to kill as many as I can. Rather not have them die somewhere in the car/garage/house if possible. After a week without catching a mouse is when I'll put out the decon. I'll keep feeding them until the tray remains full for two weeks.

I'll try this first if there's not much other damage.
Be careful with how you dispose of the droppings. Research Hantavirus. It has effected lots of people here in AZ since it was diagnosed a few years ago.
If it is just insulation missing and the wire is intact, just wrap it with good quality electrical tape. I wouldn't go into cutting and soldering unless you have broken wire.
