Last Sunday my 4 year old asked to see the engine on my Corvette. I thought to myself "That's my boy!". As I popped the hood I noticed the beginnings a of mouse nest on top of the intake. I had driven the car 2-3 weeks prior so I was a little surprised. Over the winter I had moth ***** in the engine bay and on the passenger's side mat.
I took a minute to grab the shop vac and took care of the nest. Also grabbed a few traps on Monday and baited them with peanut butter. Already got two of them.
Again tonight my 4 year old asked to see the engine again. Taking a closer look I noticed some wire insulation missing. Great! After a cursury look at the manuals I'm having a tough time identifying it exactly. Best I can tell it is "(2) Connector C110 inline between engine harness and ignition coil/module". Can anyone confirm this harness and have the part number so I can order a new one? Hopefully this won't be too painful to replace.
repair it , cut and remove each damaged wire one at a time , solder in good wire and shrink wrap. good as new, then use electrical tape to keep the factory look
Can't believe you too.. I purchase my vette in April 09 in Santa Clara. While driving home I noticed the smell of cooking hay, been to many farms, anyway when I got home I found a mouse nest in my right side valve cover (plastic one that pops out), also the little sucker took a liking to eating the rubber Positive post cover on the Alternator and a return line from the heater core, little teeth marks. I never found the mouse. I called the original owner and told him a mouse was eating my vette, the owner told me "How did the mouse start eating the vette!", I just said, one bit at a time.....
Guess you could say,,,,,they have GOOD TASTE!!! Just couldn't resist!! Seriously,,it looks like they only nibbled on the insulation,, I'd separate the bundle ans repair the insulation and rewrap!!
SebringSixSpeed, thanks for the lead!! Very helpful.
Ouch! $3100 for a new harness. Really GM?
Wonder if I can get p/n 12102754 (Image pos. 510) and splice it in? $50 is a lot better than $3100! Anyone know how long the leads are? Should be able to splice in if the leads are long enough.

NAPA carries a lot of plugs, You might talk to them and see if they have a new plug you can wire in.
Darn mouse (or pack rat) got into my shop and ate the foam surround on the air cleaner in our Silverado Crew Cab. Now I keep mouse traps (w/ PB bait) in the engine compartment and all around the shop. It also ate the hood insulation on our Trailblazer.
My Z16 sits up on the lift eight foot off the ground. I haven't found a rodent that can jump that high...yet!

Good idea. I'll check out their website. Going to take a more thorough look over the weekend for more chewed wiring.

Huh, I also have a Silverado Crew as my DD. How to you keep traps set in a DD? Or do you? I've heard dryer sheets work also. Have to get some "installed". Can I borrow your lift?

From past threads here, I have read that the smell of moth ***** is sometimes harder to get rid of than the mice. So I used no touch traps similar to the one shown below. I found a place to wedge it into so that it couldn't come loose and fall out on the roadway. It's been good there now for over a year. I check it periodically. They're spring loaded and I added PB for more bait. They work well on field mice, not so well on larger pack rats. Our Rottie takes care of those...
This is not a car story, but a mouse story. I was a church organist years ago. I was sitting with my head bowed during the pastors prayer and all the sudden the organ started playing. I quick jumped and turned the power off. At the next song I turned the power on and it still had that horrible sound.
Monday the organ shop repair man came out to the church. He started taking things apart obviously top down, and when he got to the third manual, the bottom one, there was a huge mouse next around a bunch of wires. They had eaten the insulation off of all the wires. He told me it happens all the time. They are warm around the wires. He took and black electric taped all the bare wires individually, then the whole bunch. Many years later and no trouble.
But I keep 4 mouse traps around the organ, while I was still organist at that church.
I would walk around your garage and look for any space the size of a dime. They can fit thru any space that size. I had a mouse problem a few years ago, I looked around my garage and found they were coming in at the broken garge door seal, and where the door meets the side of the garage foundation. If you find any holes or crack the size of a dime you need to use Steel wool to fill in the hole. They cant chew thru that and it will solve your issue.
I would also clean up the floor right against the walls of your garage. Mice have bad eyesight and use your walls as a guide thru the room. They will pee and poo un purpose to lay a scent that they follow each time they come in or out for fast entry or exit.

I had the same thing happen with my C4. Caught them in time before any damage was done. Popped the hood and they had started a nest right next to the intake. In the garage. Glad you noticed before more damage was done.
