Default Trunk Lid Liners

Has anyone had an issue with the trunk lid liners becoming unglued during the hot and humid summer months?

All the time. Have heard of a few fixes like hot glue and even push tabs for the one piece type. I personally have tons of 3 inch wide velcro on mine and it still comes loose. Wish I could tell you a one time solution.

Mine came with the liner, it's screwed on. I had not noticed the wrinkles until seeing the picture

I was told putting on a generous amount of weather stripping glue would do the trick.

Mine seems fine. Now I have to qualify that since I put it on just two days ago.

Time will tell, but I'm a freekin' Hot Glue Gun Monster!

The previous owner of my car must have because there is tape residue left behind and no liner.

I bought mine 2 months ago. It's Mid-America's brand. One week after I installed it, the sun was on my trunk and it came loose.

I went to the hardware store and bought 4 automotive black sheet metal screws and installed them (similar to the picture above).

No problems since.

(Just be very careful when drilling the holes. Slow and gentle. Also make sure the screws are only 1/2" long!!!)

They also have the 3-piece types that fit in between the trunk lid frames. That's the kind I plan to get next hoping that having a more flush connection will keep them in place.

Default twist on door pins

For all my cars I use the GM door panel push pins. They twist into the backing panel (drill or punch a .125 hole). I normally use the backing panel as a templete for the mating hole locations on the trunk lid braces before I upholster the trunk insert panel. But a paper templete can be made a taped into position very easily to transfer onto the finished trunk lid insert.

They just twist into the back panel ( the head will not show thru upholstery). I use six (6) on a Z06 panel. Never any sag or panel falling off. Just like factory

I've copied the How To I posted when I made mine. Like you the weight of the liner made it impossible to get the glue to hold and velcro was pulling off. A lighter liner may have been easier to fix

I went with the push pins.

DIY Trunk Lid Liner.

I'd been seeing the trunk lid liners on some of the members Vettes but being a good Yorkshireman, the $150 price tag seemed a bit steep. I had a bit of a DIY morning and made one up myself

Parts:

A sheet of pegboard - Home Depot $3
A roll of black car carpet from Walmart - $8
Spray Glue - Lowes $4
Fastners – Autozone $4

Tools:

Steel ruler
Staple gun and staples
Drill, sanding disk and cutting disk
Sanding block and sandpaper
Measuring tape

I made a template from some wrapping paper and transferred it to cardboard. I then used the template to cut the pegboard shaping the edges to make it fit the space using a rotary cutting disc. You should trim enough to give a small gap to allow for the thickness of the carpet. Glue the carpet to the pegboard leaving a 2" strip. Fold that over the edges and staple around the edge after priming with the spray on glue. You may wish to fix velcro to the V Channels on the inside of the trunk lid. This will not hold the weight and the studs are essential. It may hold the liner in place a little better but add to the cost.

Mark positions for the studs carefully. Drill holes through the liner into the V Frame. The stud pushes through and fits tightly into the frame behind. There are 2 studs at the top and 2 at the bottom.

Most Important: Be very careful not to press too hard and drill through the trunk lid

The finished item:

The logo was embroidered by my wife. You could buy the commercial GM logo but that would add to the cost.

An enhancement may be to fit some foam blocks at the lower outer corners. This would prevent some minor flexing.

I've got the 3 piece set & had no problems even when I lived in Houston, Tx. I did use some extra double sided 3M tape. I made sure to clean surface with alcohol b-4 applying tape...

I had a one piece trunk liner and got tired of bottom outside edges sticking out and also not staying in place, so I made a pattern of the three sections and cut my one piece into 3 sections. Know it fits flesh with trunk deck. I used exacto knife and some glue, with alittle time and patience what a difference it made.
