When I bought my car the wheel lock key was missing. I went to sears and bought a grip tite socket...knocked it on with a 3 lb sledge and they were off in seconds. I bought a set of 20 gorilla locks to replace the old lugs. It may be a deterrant, but as other have said...they would probably steal the whole car and part it out somewhere else.
Uhhhhh, livin in Chicago I'd be more worried about gettin dead than gettin my wheels stolen.
I don't live on the south side but it is pretty bad here. Most, not all, of the murders are gang or drug related and the news makes em out to be angels.
there is a tool that can bust off 90% of locks out there i have it at the shop. the only downside is that its thick, most aftermarket wheels have very small lug holes so getting the locks off without drilling is near impossible
The fronts are like this but the rears are exposed and would be easy to get off.

If you are that scared, then contact your local police and ask for the crime stats for your residence. Maybe it will calm you..................That's what I always do when I move.
That's what I did when my wife had to take a job in Newark, NJ. Makes Chicago look like kiddie land. Called the local precinct and was told, great bldg, virtually no crime there. After moving in, my wife was told no cars ever stolen from the garage. There were Porches, a Lotus and a Viper parked there.
They're not a "joke" if they're part of several layers of protection for your property (lock your car no matter where it's parked, park in well lighted/highly visible areas, don't leave property exposed to view, windows up, alarm system, good insurance, wheel locks, etc). The more you do to discourage an opportunistic thief, the better chance you have of the thief moving on to someone elses property.
Since some members believe our cars are so easy to steal anyway, do they leave their doors unlocked and keys in the ignition because they're helpless in preventing the crime from occurring. Do they leave their homes unlocked as well?
I don't believe in enabling a thief to take the property I've worked hard to get...

I checked out those Gorilla locks and they are round so it looks really hard to get off without a key. Plus, I think there are 4 or 5 different locks and keys. I may forgo the garage and leave it at my parents house so I won't be worried everynight.

Great advice. And I would get a set of good wheel locks for the car - no use taking any chances.
Found my Vet balanced on a cinder block and a screw jack in my carport. 4 chromes and my Goodyears gone. Bastards, Scratched up the paint and cracked one rocker panel doing it too. PD said this is the first Vett in our city to suffer this, our local thieves out here in the burbs tend to hit imports, makes me feel Fu*%ing special.
I'm going to have to look at adding vibration and/or tilt sensors to the alarm system.

This Just makes me MAD!!!!! (FUGGIN THIEVES).....New city and new cruising areas to be had!!!!
Do not let the bums win, Install the locks, Upgrade alarm, Insurance, And enjoy Your ride...
P.S You could also lean how to strategically place Razorblades. And at least know they would be caught.....
