Default LT Header Concerns

Hey all

I'm just about to add a set of long tube headers to my 02 A4 coupe and was hoping to get a bit of feedback from those who have already done so

1) Volume of sound?

I currently have Borla Stingers and a Borla x-pipe on the car and it isn't too loud at all. I am concerned about how loud it will be after adding them. Would there be a difference in volume level when comparing a set of LG Superpros to a set of American Racing LT headers since the primaries are longer on the LGs?

2) Codes being thrown?

I have heard and read a lot of things about the LGs where codes are being thrown. Is there anything I can do to prevent this without having to spend more money or tuning the codes off through a tune?

Thanks,
Rob

I had Dynatech's on my last coupe. Never had a single problem, no codes, nada. Get a good tune after installation and you should be fine.

Good luck

Nick

It will be Loud

You will toss codes.
You will need a tune after install

Yes you will need to have the car tuned after the header install... I had the LG's installed two years ago (with hiflo cats ) and tuned.. I have had no issues with codes after the tune and I passed our "E" test again with no issues.. You will notice an increase in volume especially at WOT!!

That setup with Stingers is going to be loud, say 25% louder than what you currently have. Be prepared. I had a lot of drone with that setup and ended up selling my Stingers and switching to another exhaust system. That said, others here like the LT with Stinger setup.

As for codes, your tuner should be able to tune out the rear O2s so that they are set to Not Report and you will not get any codes. Good luck with it.

I have the Stainless Works LT with the Borla Stingers and my car is definitely loud. It isn't unbearable or anything like that, but there is definitely no forgetting you are making a lot of noise.

Personally, I can't get enough of it

to get rid of the codes, you will need a tune, and also depending on emissions testing (if you have them in your area) to pass emissions. I drove my car for almost a year without a tune, you just don;'t get the fulll benefit of the headers without having it tuned.

I have LG Streets and used to have the Borla Stingers 4 oval and I had to remove them because our autox event has a 93db sound limit at 50ft. The meter read 93db on two separate events.

I miss that sound. I put my stock Ti back on my car and I don't much like the sound tone at WOT, hits about 85db or so at 50ft.

It will be louder, but its a Corvette it should be loud! Good choice on LG. I ran catless Street Series with the Stingers on my 03 coupe. Sounded bad *** and woke her up for sure.

Why are you considering Super Pros? This is for built motors or F/I applications. Go with the Pros or Street Series. Streets are just fine and great on the bank!

You should not throw any codes if you install correctly. Read the instructions you are supposed to use the rear 02 sensors up front! I have installed a dozen or so LT's on Vettes and they should not throw codes period!

A tune is beneficial but not critical.
Bite the bullet you'll love em.

As far as loudness goes, my ears have gotten very sensitive over the past 5 years (probably the result of 30 years of drumming) and my wife and I do a lot of cruises/summer road trips so anything too loud is a bit of a concern. My Borla Stingers seem quieter than the other cars I've heard (no headers) them on for some reason. I'm hoping that this carries over. A bit more noise would be welcomed. LG told me today when I called to expect roughly a 20% increase in volume.

Aren't the Pros and the Superpros fairly similar... more geared towards FI cars? I was thinking Streets but the shop I deal with is an LG vendor and can get me the Pros or Superpros for pretty much the same price as the Streets, therefore I might as well go for either. Hoping to get the Pros. If I get just a little more horsepower and torque out of them for virtually the same price... why not?

The shop is an official vendor and says they haven't had any code throwing issues with the LGs so they must know what they're doing. I'm hoping so anyway!

I'm doing a converter and a diff swap (2.73 to 3.42) at the same time so a tune will be a must for me!

I guess if worse comes to worse I will try to fit a set of Z06 Ti's again like I had before. I should be able to find them somewhere.

OBX headers with B&B Bullets
sounds freakin awesome to me. But eveyrone in the neighbor hood, or even 6 block radius might not agree

I too am a vendor for LG. Even IF they were to share their costs with you the Streets are considerably cheaper. We can discuss this in PM if you would like
