Default Car Carriers

Can anyone recommend a reputable car carrier to ship C5 vert. Going Philly area to Salt Lake City. Don't use Able Auto Transport broker and N.D Transport, one of their carriers. They damaged my winter car, an Interpid, and denied responsibility.

Horseless carriage. I used them 2 years ago to ship my Vette from Houston to Vegas. Great service! My car was in good company with Porsches and other exotic imports

I've used InterCity Lines with great success to transport my Z06 from Naples, FL to Bucks County, PA. They are a very professional, well run operation.

Morning.
This is what I do for a living and if I were shipping a vette I would use an inclosed carrier like is in the photo. I can hall more cars than he can but I can't pick up cars that are as low as most of you guys vettes without damage to the lower front bumper. Just bought mine in the sig, and have not even picked it up yet but its to low to load on my Stinger so a road trip will be very shortly. (Stinger is what we call a 10 car carrier) We are designed to pick up normal cars. I"m sure you have seen the difference rolling down the road but our ramps are at a higher angle. Picture of my office is in my photo album.
In closed is going to cost you a little more but when your vette is picked up on a open rack like I run your vette might be moved around 4 and 5 times before you get it. That up's the chance of damage.
Under the nose of the car is where if you do decide to skimp on the money there might be damage. Get DOWN buddy and look really really good WITH the transport guy and make sure you get a 150% inspection of that car signed before it leaves. You skimp on treating your car like a business at the start, you will be sitting there empty handed crossing the finish line. Its your toy and from the photos I have seen on here no longer than I've been here its most of you guys hobby.
Spend the extra couple of hundred dollars and get the covered carrier. Your vette will arive clean, just like you left it with no chance of damage.
Google DAS Transport out of Dallas Tex. They are nation wide and those guys run double. Intercity listed is also a very good company. You might get it there before you are with either. . MAKE SURE you have the covered rack pick it up. Thats whats in the photo above. Watch these brokers. They will send a open rack in on you and assure you nothing will happen. If it does, they could care less. Honestly.
For those of you that don't drive it in the rain, why would you use a open rack anyway. All that grit, blow off from our trucks, ect ect is going up, over , and under your toy. The photo in the my album there are 11 cars cramed on the rack. Two race car bodys in the belly. Do you really want your vette on there???
PS. PeteO had a great idea also. Move, leave your toy with a friend, fly back in have your buddy pick you and the lady up from the air port, and enjoy one heck of a great ride to your new home. You bought it to enjoy!!!
Good luck..

I used Sunday Auto Transport to ship my FRC from IL to CA, ran about $1600, but it was enclosed and insured. I would use them again if I needed to move a vehicle.

BobbyD,

Intercity Lines will be glad to give you a discounted shipping price, being a forum sponsor we offer a discount to forum members. Normal retail rate is $1695, your CorvetteForum price will be $1595 for enclosed, insured, lift gate loading and door to door service. We also use only nylon wheel saddles over the tires only so your C5 Vert rides on it's own suspension no chains, hooks or tensioners on the frame or body. We also have drip barriers in all out transporters and we cover each car with a cloth car cover and a plastic cover for added protection while inside the transporter. Please let us know if we can help you with your move.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Received your quote yesterday....nice to hear about the Corvette Forum discount, we can adjust for that when the time comes. What is the minimum advanced notice do you need to pick up a car? And typically how many days later would the car arrive after pick-up? Tucson AZ to Titusville Fl. This is good to know info since your transport will mostly likely get there before me and I will need to make arrangements for someone to intercept.
Thanks
Judson

Hi Jim,

I would be interested in that answer, too, about pickup notice and delivery time. I am in PA this weekend, and if it does not sell, I would need it picked up, then, I'm off to the Jersey shore getting back to Salt Lake City on Wednesday, June 2. Even with the discount, thank you by the way, $1600, is over double the open carrier price?

Hey Forum members,

Thanks for all the responses. Looks like I have a pretty good selection to choose from. Could you share your cost to ship?

Thank you from that shipper for that detailed response. Never thought that it would get jockeyed around a number of times before it gets to me.

I used FedEx to transport the C5 I purchased last month. InterCity was another transporter I was looking at and are well respected here. Both vendors offered equivalent service; and price was competitive with each quoting about $1200 to transport my car 1100 miles.

Hope this helps.

BUGZ,

Judson,

Thanks for the inquiry. We normally need 2 weeks notice in order to work the order into scheduling as the trucks are always running and not in the area where the car may be. We always try and move the car sooner if possible. Normal transit from AZ to FL would be 6-8 days depending on other stops along the way, please keep in mind that you are sharing the truck with 5 other customers so until we get you assigned to a driver and know what else is on the truck with your car. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Thanks,
Jim

BobbyD,

Thanks for the follow up. I would imagine we are double the price on an open carrier. Intercity Lines only provides enclosed, insured, lift gate loading and door to door service. The services are like night and day. Please see my recent post of the service that Intercity Lines provides. If we can help you with your move please let us know.
