Took a nice ride tonight and everything was going well and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and stayed on. The care was running great and I made it home with no problem. Any idea what can be wrong ? Thanks for your help.

The first thing you need to do is pull the codes, On the C5 you can do it using the Drivers Info Center(DIC).
Here is a link on how to do that. And has a list of codes also. Look for codes that has a C after it, That will be current.
Mr.Bill
Turn the key to the ON position, but don't start the engine. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. Any code that ends in H is a history code (something that has occured in the past) but is fine now. Once the computer has finished going through all of it's codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES".
To optionally reset the codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES". Press OPTIONS to go to the next module. Repeat the steps in this paragraph until you have reset the codes in all the computer modules. NOTE !! Only reset the codes IF you want to - it is NOT necessary to do this.
I checked codes and found a few H (history) codes but no C (current) codes. I started the car and the check engine light was Not on. Any idea what may be wrong ? Tks for your help.

Sometimes the Vette does some strange things, I would clear all codes and drive it, What are the H codes, It will tell you why you got the light.
All the codes were H codes. I was told these are problems that were in the past (history) and have since been corrected. I was told to look for C codes which mean current problems. Is my info correct ?
